  1. Thanks! for looking up my photo and for your interest. No! the umbrella was not set up. It was indeed right there and, I agree with your comment, it's what makes this picture work. All the best!! Richard

Your point is very well taken. Each photograph in my portfolio was indeed taken with the "whole" in mind. I'm very glad that you like it and appreciate your comment. Best regards!
  3. I love this particular place in the world, as you leave Truro and enter into Provincetown, especially at low tide and in the morning. This is a very nice image Mario. I must admit, however, that I hesitated on the "originality" part of the rating. The reason being, of course, that Joel Meyerowitz preceeded a lot of us in the late '70s with his Cape Light book and, later on with his Bay-Sky series. Nonetheless, I would have stopped myself and taken the shot too. Should you be interested, check out my portfolio The Outermost Land for more images of the Cape. Best regards!
  4. Hi Francesco, I agree with Richard's, Daryl's and Saikat's above comments with regards to cropping. I have taken the liberty to adjust your image to better suit "my" liking. What do you think?? Please forgive the indiscretion. Best regards!

    GREEN WINDOW

I must say I have to agree with Rob's last comment. This is an ordinary photograph of a window. In my opinion, the left side doesn't work at all. I personnally find the wire tied to the pole very distracting. Change this to b&w and there simply is no picture. Sorry! I don't think there is much depth to it. But then, that's just my humble opinion.

Good photo of a very beautiful girl. I wonder though...is it really raining? Seems to me that the "rain" is very directional. Also, the pole or tree in the area where her left arm bends at the top right tier of the picture is somewhat distracting for me. Otherwise, congratulations on a very sensual photograph.
  5. Hi Diana, I personnally think that your lighting is a bit too flat, thereby rendering the colors somewhat dull. Hand-altering Polaroid Time-Zero film usually brings them out. Although I believe your technique to be very good, the subject matter is a relatively common one for this type of image. Check out my CAPE COD IMPRESSIONS folder if you wish to look at other hand-altered images. Maybe we can trade secrets. Best regards!!

Truly a great shot. And what an exhilarating situation. I know, from having personally been in such a situation myself. On a very cold January day in 1989, I was assisting my good friend photographer Ken Ginn, from Ottawa, Canada, for a National Geographic Traveler magazine shoot on the capital city's Winterlude festival. One of its activities consists in harness races on the frozen surface of the Rideau Canal (the longest ice-skating rink in the world). Despite the biting cold (-32 C.) Ken and I both got onto the back of the pace-car with intent to photograph the start of the several races that were scheduled for that afternoon. It was a thrill indeed to actually "run" with the horses as they nuzzled close to the starter, jostling for position. Several races and rolls later we were happy with the experience but were not yet certain as to what had been captured. It was an even bigger thrill when the magazine actually ran one of the images (similar to that of Richard's) to open the article in the January-February 1990 issue (pages39-40).

I have scanned part of the image and have included it herewith, for comparison's sake. Best regards to all and again Richard congratulations on a fine shot!!
