I have a D100 and i want to get a short zoom and have been thinking
of the 17-55 f/2.8 DX and the 28-70 f/2.8. I know the 28-70 is a
great lens and i have heard good things about the 17-55. The prices
are very similer with the 28-70 going for $1379 and the 17-55 at
$1399. My concern with the DX lens is that when Nikon Drops a full
Frame D-SLR and i buy it i'll be out a lens.
So 17-55 or the 28-70?
Which would you pick and why...

I have the TC-20EII and have been happy with it, it yeilds a 600 f/5.6 on my D100 while still preserving the VR. As long as u have enough light its a very good sharp combo.

"in other words, if they can make a DSLR, and they can make an 8mp camera, shouldn't i wait for the 8mp DSLR? "
A 8 m.p. D-SRL is going to cost you far more than the 1000 bucks for the 8700. Its all about senor and material quality and the DSLR uses far more $$ parts. I had (Still do) a Coolpix 5000 and upgraded to a D100 and have been very happy. The D100 only has 1.3 m.p. worth of resolution, but the differance is very dramtic.
The compression of the 8700 sensor is huge compared to that of the d70s. The D70 may offer a smaller picture but its of higher quality.

I just had this happen to my SB-50 DX
Same problem as u said.
i was not able to find an a fix so i sent it back to Nikon.
They have had it for 15 days not and is still "In the Shop" according to their reapir status.
If my flash was not covered by warranty it would of been 77 bucks under B2 Service pack.
Good Luck

I own a D100 and have Loved it, the cropping factor (1.5x) can be annoying if you want short lenes, but with telephotos it's great. The D100 was built on the F80 body so its gonna be lighter than your F100, but if u add the MB-100 MultiFunction Battery pack (200 bucks) its compareable in weight and size to the D1x.

VR causing vibration on a tripod
in Nikon
Posted
The VR should be turned off.
Unless your using the 200-400 f/4 VR which is the only Nikon VR lens to use VR with a tripod.
