  1. Bracket two shots - one with original matrix exposure and one -2.5 stops. Combine the two shots in photoshop (light on top of dark.) Then use Layers > curves > masks to reduce hilites. Brush>soft tip> set at 10%.

    OR

Shoot at -2.5 exposure - recapture 1 to 1 1/2 stops in RAW and recapture another stop in Photoshop.

Combine parts of both of the above suggestion.

A circular polarizer is not the complete answer - but it will help some. Try to shoot at oblique angles to the direct path of the sun to subject.

Make them hold the game before sunrise or just at sunset :)

  2. Don't have the answer exactly. Try reloading software - my luck with computers in past years is that the operating systems corrupts at times.

Nikon service ctr has always been helpful to me. However, I sometimes have to ask different representives to get knowledgeable service.

  3. Jen, Welcome to Photo.net. (1.) Contact the lab that you wish to do business with - they will supply you with their needs to provide a product for you. (2.) Photoshop elements 4 should provide you with the setup for printing. Check "Help files." (3.) resizeing your files or (upresizing)is not considered good practice resulting in "interpolation of the files pixels." The softwear you have should explain these terms-ck with "Help files" or Google on the Internet. (5.) Set your resolution at 300 and never change it for printing, unless directed to do so by your lab.
  4. Open Photoshop CS2 and choose FILE-NEW. Save As a blank file. Do not close this blank file.

Choose a selection (picture of Earth that has the background removed) and OPEN in the same window as above.

Choose MOVE TOOL and place and adjust the object of picture on the blank new file-SAVE AS. [LAYER 1]

CTRL- J will place a copy in the layer?s workspace. [LAYER COPY1]

    NOTE:

    OK.

The following 10 lines will make stars in the background.

    ACTIVATE LAYER COPY 1

Make sure that foreground is Black (clk the D key.)

Choose ALT- BACKSPACE. This will place a black blank background

    behind ?Object.?

Choose FILTER ? NOISE ? ADD NOISE, AMOUNT: 100%, SELECT: GAUSSIAN & MONOCHROMATIC, and clk OK.

Choose FILTER ? BLUR ? GAUSSIAN. RADIUS: set to 2/0. Clk OK.

Choose ADJUSTMENT LAYER ? LEVELS. Move Blk point until IMPUT LEVEL box reads 113, ctr point stays where it is, White point is moved until box reads 126. Clk OK!

    Hopes this is helpful.

  5. Two button Reset located on page 111 of your "The Nikon Guide to Digital Potography with the D70S DIGITAL CAMERA." In the hand book that came with your camera.
  6. Hi Joe,

I had the same questions as you have stated. I called Nikon and Adobe direct to get an answer, as conflicting statements were being made on the Internet.

After the calls, I reflected on their anwsers and came too the conclusion that I may have incorrectly formed my questions as they posed information opposeing the the Internet information.

Maybe someone more learned than I should contact them and settle the confusion. I found that the customer service reps did not have this info and had to be directed to the engineer dept.

  7. Thanks for the imput. By minimizing the camera menu - I am trying to offer RAW maximum raw information. I understand that RAW has many facits to its program. However, my attempt to minimize the workflow takes into consideration those things that RAW can only do. Work Flow Options and maximize the Histogram. Other things like White Balance,

is a subjective choice and can best be attended by the camera's menu when we take the shot. On my D70s I preset the White Balance at each change of scene. If I would need to tweak it later - PSCS2 in adjustments>Hue/Sat can handle it. Other adjustments in raw - sharpening, contrast, etc. can also be handled in PSCS2. Trying not to duplicate work and work in the best order to obtain the best file (pict)is my only gold.

I realize that I am a newbie and all thing are choices and many of them can be done in many different ways. I am just trying to streamline a workflow without missing something important. You the people of this forum are my only sounding board.

Thank you for your consideration. Rob............

  8. As a newbie both to Photo.net and digital photography I wish ask for

help. I have seriously studied and used Photoshop for the past one

and a half years. I recently finished a secondary level college

Photoshop class. My question: If I negate or minimize the menu in

the camera (D70s)- minimize correction (remove automatics, etc.) in

RAW and try for the very best Histogram per file in Raw to submit to

Photoshop. Have I missed any important steps in RAW. Thanks
