Very much appreciated. I agree it's a bit soft - I shall have to have a go at sharpening the original in PS. Your version does give a bit more punch to the image!

I was lucky enough to get a nice smile as the bride and groom went to

sign the register. What do you think of the black and white treatment

    and the shot in general?

The blurriness does help give it a sense of strangeness, but I agree that perhaps the middle island should all be sharp. I confess that the first time I looked at the picture, I thought the blurring was an mistake.

It's good that you're trying out different effects though - it's the only way to work out how to take more interesting photos...

Thanks to Douglas Keller - I like the horizontal version; it looks very surreal!

Thanks also to Bob and Doug Hawks - I very much appreciate the positive comments. I felt there was something about this shot that I liked, but was a bit suprised how badly rated it was. I often feel that I like photos that nobody else does :-) You've given me some confidence that I'm not alone in liking something different.

I was wondering if people would like the motion of the shot, and I guess they don't :-)

The moral of the story: ensure that at least one thing is in sharp focus, be it the thing that's moving or the background...

  1. I actually really like the "Soldier Crab Army Marching" and agree with the other poster - it really does look like a herd of cattle from a birds-eye view.

I realise you can't really change the backdrop for this shot but it was the main thing that was distracting me from the beauty and interest of the subject so I thought I'd mention it!

    I appreciate all your feedback!

Paul: I guess if you don't like PS effects, you don't like them!

David: can you give me a hint as to how to improve the original image? Is it composition or just a bad choice of subject?

I didn't think of it as an attempt to "rescue" the shot; I take many, many pictures, discard most of them and enjoy playing with the rest afterwards!

I agree this isn't a brilliant original photo, but thought this was an interesting effect which grew on me the more I looked at it.
