Trying to capture the movement and busy feel of Canary Wharf (London's
new financial district).
Any comments or critiques are very welcome.

I was lucky enough to get a nice smile as the bride and groom went to
sign the register. What do you think of the black and white treatment
and the shot in general?
-
The blurriness does help give it a sense of strangeness, but I agree that perhaps the middle island should all be sharp. I confess that the first time I looked at the picture, I thought the blurring was an mistake.
It's good that you're trying out different effects though - it's the only way to work out how to take more interesting photos...

Thanks to Douglas Keller - I like the horizontal version; it looks very surreal!
Thanks also to Bob and Doug Hawks - I very much appreciate the positive comments. I felt there was something about this shot that I liked, but was a bit suprised how badly rated it was. I often feel that I like photos that nobody else does :-) You've given me some confidence that I'm not alone in liking something different.

I was wondering if people would like the motion of the shot, and I guess they don't :-)
The moral of the story: ensure that at least one thing is in sharp focus, be it the thing that's moving or the background...

Any ratings or comments very gratefully received...

I actually really like the "Soldier Crab Army Marching" and agree with the other poster - it really does look like a herd of cattle from a birds-eye view.
I realise you can't really change the backdrop for this shot but it was the main thing that was distracting me from the beauty and interest of the subject so I thought I'd mention it!

Nice light trails, but I personally find my eye wandering over to the car park in the foreground. Is it possible to crop this out to emphasise the tower?
-
Nice detail but it's a shame the composition isn't symmetrical (spelling?) - it's just slightly off-centre which is a bit distracting for me.
-
A nice shot but I don't like the tinting - sorry...
-
Interesting - but why is it blurred in the middle of the frame?

Fabulous colours!

I quite like these owls captured at the World Owl Sanctuary in
Muncaster Castle, in the Lake District - what do you think?
-
I used a telephoto lens to flatten the side of the Duomo so that it
looks very close to the tower. Do you think this is effective? Does
the composition work?

I appreciate all your feedback!
Paul: I guess if you don't like PS effects, you don't like them!
David: can you give me a hint as to how to improve the original image? Is it composition or just a bad choice of subject?
I didn't think of it as an attempt to "rescue" the shot; I take many, many pictures, discard most of them and enjoy playing with the rest afterwards!
I agree this isn't a brilliant original photo, but thought this was an interesting effect which grew on me the more I looked at it.

Beatiful - good foreground detail, good reflections, great colours.
-
Very original but I'm not sure I like the end result - sorry...
-
Great crab but I'm not sure about the background - I would be interested to have seen what he looks like from a side view!

An excellent composition, although I agree that the dark blue of the water in the lower right is slightly distracting. Nevertheless, a beautiful scene...
