I didnt believe in this picture one second.

The attempt the enhance the landscape gives me the feeling of a human zoo in which the only interest in people is exoticism..

These people deserves at least a treatment that makes their hard work look real..

It seems that the lightpainting technik is very popular.. and there is obvious mastery of it throughout your gallery. I suggest you forgot to paint the blue on the reflexion and there is still some green remaining in the background that gives a glimpes of what the scene was like in real.. not that golden..

There is much to say about the postprocessing.. my feeling is that I just can't believe in this picture.. it's like all the authenticity of the scene was grabbed by the perception of the image maker leaving only splodges of colour and unlikely lightling.

When I try to ignore the makeup of this picture, I see an awkward composition.. mainly because of the almost centered subject chopping the frame in four.. I feel more space was needed on the top and right.

While viewing this picture, almost half of my attention is grabbed by the large signature... so I think this qualifies well to advertise some random product: the beauty of the subject identifies with occidental standards and whatever is written gets memorized.. the peacock works well!!

As a portrait, the colour display is elegant, but I think I will forget this picture in very little time as the picture's qualities are superficial. It doesnt show me insight on personnality or charisma.. but I guess this wasnt the intent.. Cheers, O.

"metaphor of the fluidity of space and time in the real world vs. the (temporary) permanence of mind of all human beings living in this world."

This concept does appear to my eyes, and it is precisely the reason why this picture fails to impress me: the concept can be reduced to words and therefore leaves us with nothing more than an intellectual approval: the concept steals and hides the emotion.

It can be reduced because it was preconceived and constructed not as a photo, but as an idea. Like all easy-communicating ideas, it is common and simplistic.. I can't dig any deeper so all I find in this photo is the pleasing but unsatifying feeling of a very well organised picture with little soul.

    Cheers

  1. The light is great and the moment seems sincere.. which, I guess, is'nt easy to do in such a cliche-esque (??) situations with so-called 'cultural people'. I think no one mentionned how natural and peaceful looking the man is.. I wonder how aware of your presence he was? To me, the twinkle in the eyes and the slight smile makes the photo.

If I had to mention a flaw, it would be the composition. Every part of the photo is eye-pleasing, but the connection and 'reading' of the picture is not easy. I can't suggest any impovements.. I think it's the central colomn that makes a sort of geometrical decomposition, and I don't like that.

I don't see what the PS discussion has to do with anything here.. and it would be nice not to see large and horrible treatments just above that spoils the feeling.. at least put a link :/

In above comments there was a couple comments about 'mother nature', 'creative nature'..

What I see is a landscape, and a landscape is land from a human's standpoint angle. What I see is a very strict composition, almost mathematicly composed in the most classic way. I'm not saying a fancy framing would be better, but the fact is it follows the basic rules to the letter. What we see in not a creation of nature but an organisation, simplification of elements by the photographer.

The fact that people see nature in this creation shows that they are attracted by the elements and their display before anything else. In 'Camera Lucida', R Barthes calls this display the studium and insists that our liking or not of a studium is a cultural phenomenon. Now I can understand why people can identify to this picture as it works as a symbole. The blue and white tones associated with the idea of purity, and the total absence of humans or human artifact, commonly associated with 'nature' (as in western culture, man is not part of nature any more).

From my point of view, even if the picture is well crafted, the organisation is 'overworked', and the elements that are displayed don't tell anything to me. In other words, culturally, the studium doesnt please me.. I don't recognize any meaning anywhere and nothing surprises me here.

Framing isn't eye pleasing to me. The picture needs more space on the right to breathe and the left is pretty useless.

Out of focus left eye is disturbing.. this is important as the eyes are the only point of interest for me - the mask being, by definition, blank and inexpressive. Light is slightly too hard on the mask.

The series, as presented in the folder, lacks unity.

Too much wasted space. The b&w is too flat. The tube above the man's head doesnt help. I think I would've chosen wide angle and closer view point, or a little further in horizontal format.. either more context or more emotion.. Your gallery seems promising, keep on streetshooting ;)

Compared to your two other experiences, this panoramic format gives the best sensation. I still think that for the photo to fully work, the pattern needs a stronger graphic structure, or something to break the unity. CHeers

OOOh!! very nice architecture.. it can look like a cone.. maybe lacks a foreground or something to catch attention where there are people.. but I like place!
  2. The BG is really beautiful.. but with your flash it seems the hero is not part of the scene. Also I dont like the posture very much, low head and shut torso.. The expression is great and the picture obviously has style.
