I've had my kids taken into care, it's much safer for them and for me. The temptation to sell them to passing Arabs was at times too great. Social services say that if I promise to stay of the cooking sherry for at least 6 months then I might get a supervised home visit. It's 8.30am here and already I'm thinking about alcohol, however, the Whitehouse will be open in a couple of hours so I can get up there and start my new year celebrations a day early.

I hope to be doing a bit of mountaineering myself this coming year Didier. Yes, I have the long, hard and cold north-face of mental health to climb. My Lhotse face will be coming off the valium and when I leave the half way house that will be my own south col. But for now I am stuck at base camp looking up at the summit of Mount Bonkers.

Time to strap on the crampons (my girlfriend thinks they are a new brand of ladies sanitary products) and haul myself over the icefall of madness.
