...I forgot to mention: There are 39 pictures in his portfolio, and when checking
6 of them...they have all been rated by himself...thus it would be a shock if the
rest weren't. One of them are only rated by 1 person...himself...

I will send this one to abuse@photo.net, but feel it would be beneficial for
others to know as well.
One member has rated 1992 photos on this site, with average ratings of 4.06
for Aesthetics and 3.93 for Originality. The ratings went to 1283 distinct
photographers.
The interesting part is when you have a look at the top rated pictures of this
member. Quite a few of this members "Top Rated" belomgs to himself! It's
been going on for quite some time. Even today he has rated one of his own
with 7/7, and a bit earlier when I had a look in this members "Top Rated
Photos" some were gone. But when you go in at some of his pictures you still
see he has rated his work.
The member has been a part of the community for almost 1/2 a year now...so
clearly this is not just something which happens by "accident"... so my
question is if members being caught doing this will be expelled, or just a slap
on the hand...and please behave from now on? I hope they will be
expelled...this is jusst too bad for the folks who try and be constructive in their
feedback as well as rating.
Cheers! Ivar

From time to time we all have a discussion about the color/brigthness/contrast
in pictures. I've just discovered that I didn't utalize the full possibility in my
browser.
I use a MAC, (with Explorer 5.2 for MAC, Adobe CS) , the Adobe and screen
have been set up with Adobe RGB (1998) colour profile. Recently I
discovered a tick box in the Internet Expolorer preferences called "Use
ColorSync " and when doing so I can see a noticable difference in the
pictures brightness/contrast when viewing them in Explorer. Just a tip...and it
would be cool to hear if others have been plaing around with the same result.
Below is a picture I attached to show what I mean.

Brian, Bob and the rest...
Pretty please allow us to at least keep the possibility to change some layout
on the community member page. About a year ago I signed up for 4 years,
and I'm so grateful for the epossibility to change to look on the community
page to my liking. A while ago I asked for help to change some of the layout...I
got the help I needed... and honestly... I think it's kind of classy looking. :-)
I've kept the changes to a minimum...same font and layout...just changed the
font colors and back ground. Please let us keep the possibility for this! :-)

Happy New Year folks...and thanks for a job well done in 2004 keeping the

Thanks Seven!
Think you got the wrong idea... I would never "copy/paste" a code. :-))
Just really like the idea that it looks cool, and would really like to have
somthing which seperates a bit from the crowd....
Thanks for quick and honest answer! :-))
See you around mate!

For about 5 days have tried to access my list of interesting people,
or even add people to my list, but I only get the message "This
feature has been disabled temporarily due to heavy traffic on the
Web server. "
My question is: Has it been disabled all together now?

Hi folks!
The last few months I've enjoyed PN immensly, and as much as I was
against the change of viewing who rated what... I have to admit it
seems to be working fab! Anyhow... I have a couple of small
questions/requests.
1) In "my workspace" I have marked quite a few people as
interesting. Would it be possible to get a way to sort them in a
matter which I would suitable for me?
Eg. when I know that Allon has some fab infra red pictures, it would
be cool to have him in the same folder as anyone else I discover
with infra red. Likewise when I know that Gunn is from Norway, Petri
from Finland and Chris from USA I would like to have them in
respectible folders. Possible...or not?
2) In the directory of members it's possible to search for last
name/e-mail. Would it be possible to add a search for eg. country?
Reason as above, but also that I find it interesting to see what
others in/from same country take picures of. Possible...or not? :-)
3) Last but not least... would it be possible to have an option to
view members pictures in decending order?
If I've been on holiday/haven't had access to PN for some days/weeks
and then check up on the new additions in the portfolio I might have
to go through the whole folder again... -And when some of the
patrons have a few hundred pictures it's quite some job to go
through the process. If I then could choose to "sort decending" and
barabing! There you have it!!! It would be just fab! Possible?
I truly hope so! :-))
Cheers, and thanks for an ever improving and growing site folks! :-

Hiya folks!
Jupp... it's summer, and I'm off (to what at least I think is..) a couple of well
deserved weeks in the sun. Puerto Rico / Gran Canaria here I come! :-))
Never been to Gran Canaria... suggestions to where/what to photograph is
more than welcome. :-)))
See you later folks!

I have to admint that I didn't even think the ND suggested would be a gradual
one when I read the comment (Here's the link to where I saw it: http://
www.photo.net/photo/684805&size=lg) as far as my know
no) and yes...it's pretty obvious that a gradual will affect the overall contrast in
the shot.
Cheers folks...thanking you all! :-)) Ivar :-))
-
Jupp indeed it's useful in that way.
That is excact the way I've been using them. :-)
The other way is a ND covering all of the lens in order to get longer shutter
speed.
What I really don't understand is how it's supposed to give less contrast...
Thanks though! :-)) Ivar

Sorry to say Joly you might be in deep.......
Same happened to me...and I tried as suggested above...though with no luck.
Even Fuji tried when I went back to the shop.... it was a nogo.
Two lessons were learned by me:
1) Download on a regular basis.
2) If you are going on holiday.... do not trust your 1 Giga card...split up un a
couple of 512.
Cheers! ;-))

Hi folks!
I'm used to using all kinds of filters on my cameras, thus I found the following
comment quite interesting when stumbeling upon it:
"....would like a ND filter to reduce the contrast...."
Will a ND filter really reduce the contrast...?
I mean... as far as I know light metering is set to 18% gray...thus when you use
a ND you only reduce the ammount of light reaching the focal plane...no
change of contrast.
Have I got it all wrong? :-))
Cheers! Ivar :-))
-
I agree...and disagree with some/much of above.
-Will be interesting to see in the next days how it pans out.
How about if this option was availble to each individual?
If I want the rest of Photo.net to see the different people's ratings I could
choose to do so...? I do believe that the majority of ratings are genuine... and
we have all had our fair/unfair share of ratings/comments. We should all be
able to take it. Myself ... I have been tempted several times to get back to the
one in questioning... and have done so only one... not with a rating, but with a
short explenation to stay clear unless there is a explenation from them as of
why the rating is "off" from the other ratings. It's always going to be a way
around.... if you check right after requesting you can see the hightest rating of
the different persons... if you're there... you know...or then again not...
anyway... I do think it would be nice to see who likes/dislikes your work. Most
people won't have a problem going back to someone telling them
constructively how they feel. I might enjoy a picture of i.e. Pradeep immensly
one time... 7/7... but then next time 4/4... so what... that's the beauty of it... to
have a discussion! It's no rocket sience we are doing...it's personal taste! :-))
Se you folks!

Hiya!
I've used a variety of different mouse(s) and rollers, and have never been
picky about the speed of the mous. The problem has usually been accuracy.
I changed to Mac a couple of years ago... and even though I REALLY don't
consider myself a Mac geek... I do have to admit that the one which I so far
has been most comfertable with is the one I use now.
Here's the link to it: http://www.welovemacs.com/m8690ga.html
It's extreemly accurate and is not picky what so ever when it comes to
mousemat/which...or simply not. :-))
I do know that it's quite individually if we like/feel comfertable with the mouse...
but I have to say that "Mouse-arm" is a condition I left behind when I got this
new one.
Cheers!

If I go to one of my own pictures it doesn't even allow me to rate, thus I believe
you are spot on Bob... "tricks or hacking" seems likely... what say you
