  1. Learn to use manual mode, dont rely on the camera to do the work for you, practice shooting in difficult situations. I am not familiar with Nikon, but if you can shoot in RAW, dont shoot expecting to have to post process everything but if you need to do some tweaking Raw can make a huge difference. Dont go in saying I want to meet with the B&G and discuss the following. Explain to them that I am an amateur and cannot guarantee that I will get every shot but I will give them my best effort. No photographer gets every shot, they only present the keepers. You said they are already getting professional photography, sound like you are more of a second shooter, which will be a great chance to get the couple what they want and get you some great images for a portfolio.
  2. Well I'm definitely not making the decision based on the flash factor, it would just be an added bonus. I really want to upgrade due to size of XT (my hands are a little to big for this body, plastic body, annoying rattle below the flash housing, second wheel on the 20D for adjusting aperture and shutter speed which my élan 7e has and I missed on the XT, overall the XT seems to be a quality camera for the $$ but for me personally the 20D seems to be a better fit. I was just hoping that it might work with the two external flashes but it looks like the answer is no. Here is another question, why does canon do this to their customers, if they are buying third party already its not like they make any more money off of the deal unless the third party vendors are giving kickbacks to canon. Who knows, looks like if I go with the 20D or stay with the XT I will need a new flash. Do canon flashes have that much more of an advantage over third party (enough to justify the huge price difference that is)?
  3. I am considering an upgrade from the Digital Rebel XT to the EOS

20D, the rebel is great, all my third party lenses work with it. The

build quality is a little bit low, but to be expected to get the

price under $1000. The one thing that does not work with it are my

two Quantaray 9500A and PZ-1 external flashes, EOS dedicated for my

Elan 7e. The guy at my local camera store said the D. Rebel XT will

not work with these flashes because they are remaking third party

flashes to be specifically dedicated to fit the new digital cameras.

Does anyone know if these two flashes will work with the 20D, this

would seal the deal to upgrade in my opinion? Thanks for the info

  4. Is there a way to convert a color photo (head shot) into a grayscale

image and retain the eye color (a light blue) from the original

color photo. The only thing that I can manage is instead of

converting to a grayscale I have to go into

image>adjustments>channel mixer, check the monochrome box but I

don?t like the results. When I try to add the colored eyes back into

the converted grayscale image it turns the eyes into grayscale as

    well. Any suggestions?

  5. OK I don?t know that anyone can answer this question yet because

Canon cannot answer it, but I thought I would try. In relation to

write speed from Rob Galbraith?s web site you can look at how the

Digital Rebel performs in contrast with the 20D when you look at the

same CF card. For example the D. Rebel will write at a speed of

1.245mb/sec on the Sandisk Ultra II 512MB, the 20D will write at a

speed of 5.609mb/sec on the same card, both in RAW format. I called

Canon to see how the Digital Rebel XT will perform in relation to

these two cameras and they could not tell me. Does anyone know have

this info or know how to obtain it? Thanks all.

  6. OK I think I get the point I will stick with my original plan of getting the Rebel XT when it comes out later this month. A point of intrest, I went back into Amazon to find the "to good to be true" seller, it was gone, I was going to report it to Amazon. Thanks all
  7. Has anyone heard of the second party seller through Amazon that is

offering the Canon 20D for $700 - New. Is this actually possible? Or

is it possibly a scam of some kind? The seller says it is the

american version but shipping out of Italy. Has anyone heard about

this yet? Seems to good to be true, but if it is true it is a great

    deal. Any insight?

  8. I have a question that I cannot seem to find an answer for in the

threads. I shoot a Canon Elan 7e, and have a shoe mount quantaray

and a slave quantaray external flash unit for lighting. I recently

set up in a gym (everybodys favorite location) to do some simple

portrait work. The light came out evenly distributed, shadows were

minimal but the pictures had to be saved on the printing side

because the negatives were two to three stops underexposed. I have

been thinking about getting a light meter, Sekonic comes to mind but

I am unsure about what to get. I know that the flash meter

capability is essential. My question is with multiple flash units do

you have to stand in the place of the subject and fire the flashes

to get the proper reading? Is there a way like with the spot meter

to read the scene from the camera position while firing the flash

units to get an overall light reading of the entire scene? If not

what is the best way to get a proper meter reading for this type of

situation? Thanks in advance for any information in this area.
