  1. i had the canon 5d with 24-70 f2.8 L lens for a while... beautiful setup. however, compared to the images of the leica m8 with the 35 summicron asph and 90 elmarit lenses, they were a tad softer. i chose the leica setup instead, and have now added the 50 summicron and a 21mm Zeiss ZM lens as well. great performers all around!

  5. I owned the 5D previously. I must admit it's a real good digital camera. I had it for almost a year, with around 3k actuations on it. Sold it with no regrets a couple of days ago. I guess I just had to buy the M8 due to the look of the files it produces, and the fact that Leicas do hold their values much better, regardless analog or digital... To me, the 5D is a workhorse camera. It is... My opinion is that if you work professionally, a 5D or in any case any 1Ds MkII/III camera would really be hard to beat, physically and photo quality wise. For me, I prefer Leicas because they have soul..., especially the look of the photos produced... it just has the magic...
  6. dear fellow wise M8 users out there, need some advice on what to check on a used

M8 with high serial no. (still under warranty). anything i should be wary off

before purchasing the camera other than the magenta issue (ir filter provided).

    appreciate it all... :-)

  7. I was using my 5D with a 2GB Kingston flash card tonight when this problem

happened. I took some RAW & fine jpeg shots and while reviewing them on the

camera LCD, I also deleted some unwanted photos. In the midst, the usually

flashing red led on the 5D suddenly stayed on. I turned the camera the the 'off'

position but the led was still on, without flashing (as it would when reading

off the memory card). I then proceeded to remove the memory card.. (the light

stayed on). Finally, I removed the battery for a minute and put it back in the

    camera.

After turning it back on together with the same memory card inserted, all the

photos which were not deleted were still intact. My 5D has about 3000+

actuations on it. What could be the problem here? I have never had this happened

    before... Appreciate the contributions. Thanks.

  8. I was thinking of doing the same just a couple of days ago. I own a 5D and an M6. I have the 24-70/2.8 L and a Sigma Macro 50/2.8 EX. With the Leica I have the 35/2 asph and the 90/2.8. The 5D is great for photographing anything that's moving compared to the M6. Kids, for example... And with flexibility of it's high ISO, it works extremely well with low lighting as well. Nowadays with the M6, I hardly shoot anymore?? Maybe it's because of the cost of film, etc. I love the look of my leica photos though.. And it's with this intent that I want to go digital with the M8, purely this intention...
  9. The best place to shop for Canon EOS gear in KL is at Boeing Photo in Sungei Wang Plaza (located in Bukit Bintang area). Best salesperson to approach is Lillian. The store in at the ground level near the main entrance. Another alternative is YL Camera in Pudu Plaza. You may need the help of a cab to take you there as it's not in tourist territory. They are located in the 1st floor. Ask for Desmond Liew. These 2 stores have the best EOS pricing in KL, if not for other cameras and other accessories as well.
