  1. Dear Andrew, if we compare the both lenses with regard to the handling: Schneider built the 90 XL in a brand new version, the front-socket is white coloured and the back socket allows a diameter of 78 mm, so it is usable with smaller LF-plates.

The image angle is 110° with the Schneider and 105° with the Nikkor: so forget the 4.5 aperture, use a bright ground-glass, there is more profit with the wider angle!

  2. Dear Andrew, who says Nikon lenses coating are better? If you buy a Schneider lens from the last years they will be coatet with the best protection you also can find in the Zeiss-lenses for Hasselblad etc.

The next thing, Nikon will disapear more and more in the LF-lens marketplace.

Have a look of the new Schneider lenses, which are the 150 XL SS Asph. (Image circle 386 mm good enough for 8x10") 0r the 210 AS-L, which covers 321 mm.

At last: I know the Schneider factory and the people working there: Schneider lenses are handmade, with glasses(no plastic) and they produce the highest level of quality one can imagine...

  3. Dear Joe,

I'm the happy owner of the new Schneider APO Tele Xenar 600mm and 800 mm convertable - they are fabulous!(But not unexpensive!)

The image circle is 400 mm with the 600mm rearelement and 480 mm with the 800 mm. The apertures are: f9-64 (600mm) and f12-64 (800 mm)Filterdiameter is M105 and Attention!!!: rear filter diameter is only M86!

You will need a long bellow: nearly 630 mm for the 800 mm and 460 mm for the shorter 600 mm.

And you will need a solid tripod: 2.200 g for the 800 Apo Tele without plate!

But: the lenses are really superb, a very sharp and a very bright image on your groundglass and film.

Schneider changed also the whole LF-lenses: there are now Super Angulon (38mm until 90 mm)

Super Symmar XL Aspheric ( 80mm until 210 mm)

Apo symmar L (120 mm until 480L mm)

Makro Symmar HM ( 80 mm, 120 mm, 180 mm)

Apo Tele Xenar ( 250 mm, 400 mm, 600/800 mm)

All new lenses with large front-filter diameter are also with smaller filter diameter on the rear element!!!

    Greetings from Old Europe,

    Peter M. Hartel
