  1. I've had some problems with several Integra 500s and I'm wondering

if anyone knows how to repair them when they refuse to flash. They

power up, the modeling light works, but they do not trigger, either

by sync cord, slave, or switch. The first light this happened to

samy's camera swapped out. Now, it's happening to a different

unit. If you know of a schematic with a triggering capacitor that

might be bad, I'd love to see it. Has this happened to anyone

else?? I swapped out fuses, lamps, cords, etc. I've opened it the

unit, and can't see any obvious problems. Nothing smoking or burned

    out.

One of the problems I had with a different unit was that it refused

to power up at all. No fan, no model, nothing. If this happens to

you, there is a fuse inside the unit, on the underside of the power

supply, that you can only access by opening it. It's not the same

as the modeling lamp fuse, but you can replace it for under $2.

Wish they made that fuse accessable from the outside.

Good units, but if I can repair them myself when they stop firing,

    great units. Any help appreciated.

  2. I use quantum freewires for radio slaves, and noticed that they

operate at about the same frequency as the european pocket wizards.

Do any of you Euros know if the Sekonic radio transmitter can

trigger the freewires? Or a similiar question that might yield the

same answer - ever have a European pocket wizard accidentally fire

    your freewire slaves?

    Thanks for any help!

  3. I've been thrilled with the Direct aperture settings and use the 1/3 switch, as I find it much more self-explanatory than f/16 4/10s, which would not be the same as 16.4. I don't understand the half values with tenths either, but if you move switch 3 to direct, you lose the tenths, which is easier to comprehend for either half or third stop settings. Switch 4 controls that choice, and with third of a stop exposures (if your camera offers that - my 10d does), your f stops are 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 2.8, 3.2, 3.6, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.6, 6.3, 7.1, 8.0, 9.0, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 29, 32, etc.. Since these are all a lot closer together than full stops, measurement is much more accurate. Shutter values are also more interesting, with 1/200, 1/160, 1/125, 1/100, 1/80, 1/60, 1/50, 1/40, 1/30, 1/25, 1/20, 1/15, 1/13 (!), 1/10, 1/8, 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, etc.. If f16.0 4/10s doesn't make sense, f18 will!
  4. Yes! I have a 10D, and a sony clie nx70. I use a free cf driver to enable the clie to read files from a cf card, and use acidimage to view the files. The ARM processor in the clie I use is fast enough to view high res jpegs in under 2 seconds, and the high res plus screen on the sony pdas (320x460)gives an awesome rendition of the images. Zooming is possible, so I often use my clie to double check my flash exposures in the field while I still have my clients on hand to reshoot anything thats not satisfactory. Email me for more information. I haven't found a way to view raw files yet, but I'm asking the software vendors to support it in future versions.
