Hi Mason,
I am using Imageprint with 2200 and I cannot remember last time I did soft proof.
Part of the reason is that they have profiles for different light conditions (daylight, tungsten, fluo and at least one that is "universal".
So far to my experience prints looks as close as I can see on my monitor and that one is calibrated with QuickGama utility (so no fancy devices there)
I am still shooting slides so I can compare print with slide and monitor.
I think that they are offering 30 day refund so if you do not like it you can return it.

Andrea,
You do have both Scratch and Page file on same HD. It does not matter if they are on different partitions - you are still using same HD.
You will need to set both on different HD to see any performance increase. I will also agree with previous posts to reduce amount of memory allocated to PS.

Hi Kent,
Install section of user guide refers specifically to the 2200.
You have to set it up in such way (sorry do not remember details and I am away from my home PC)to reference windows print driver as pointer.
You will also have to set print directly to printer and disable bi-directional printing on original Epson driver.
That should resolve your problem.

Looks good, but it appears that they have dropped IEEE 1394 connection.

Sorry folks, I have to correct my previous post - rom version on my minolta is 1.10

Hi Gilles,
You won?t find any other updates as Minolta updates firmware trough software driver. (Apparently when you do driver update and boot scanner firmware update is executed at that point so if you have software version 1.1.5 (bios 1.0.9) it is the latest one (your numbers are same as mine)

I do not think there is need for any additional profile as Image Print comes with lots of profiles probably as good as profile can be.
They vary for paper types, resolution (1440 or 2880) and light type.
-
That one I do not know. It is my understanding that bronzing is more to do with printer driver and way how it is actually "talking" and rasterizing image to the printer, rather than the profile itself.
-
I will agree with Beau. I am using it for color prints and it substantially reduces bronzing on glossy and luster papers.
It is much, much better than Epson print driver.
For 2200 it comes in "light" version (does not have color correction and template features enabled) and it is app. $495 US.
Do keep in mind that there is 30 day money back option as well.
Before installing it read detailed instructions first as install for 2200 uses slightly different settings.

Les,
Maybe "hardware solution" is not most fortunate term as it seams to describe some high-tech solution in scanner itself -it is just a diffuser - pretty much same as in some regular darkroom enlargers (you will insert it between condenser lenses to get softer light).
-
Not sure for Dual Scan IV, but Dimage 5400 uses hardware solution
(physical diffusion of the light source by setting scanhancer lens in the light path)

Hi DarkStar,
Make sure that "Simulate: Paper White" is turned off when you creating custom Proof Setup.
It is useful feature but takes time to learn whet exactly is telling you.
-
Never had any problems with mine. Latest version of software seams to work OK as well (1.1.5)
I would suggest taking your favorite neg/slide and having folks in the store do the demo for you.
I think that both scanners are good choices.

Same problem here with 2200 - uninstalled Epson Status Monitor - no preblems since.
-
Do keep in mind that when you convert to 8 bit from 16 bit all 16 bit data is lost - even if you convert it back you will not get original. PS will just add "fake" bits. I would suggest doing all color correction in 16 bit mode first than to do all sharpening in 8 bit mode as a last step.

Hi Doug, I am glad it worked. Now as for tech support, it all boils down to the money. To all Software and Hardware manufacturers support is additional cost so they could not care less about quality as long as there is someone to pickup the phone (outsourcing anyone?)
Typically low paid jobs with high turnover of staff.
On the bright side, here are links that might be useful....

Hi all,
I am using Minolta Dimage 5400 for 4 motnths now and I am very happy with it.
I have dual P3 886mhz, 1gb ram and 2 separate usb 2.0 controllers.
Scanning at 5400 is fast provided that grain dissolver and ICE are off. (with gd and ICE takes a bit longer)
Speed depends on density of negative/positive as well.
I have used it with Minolta software and Vuescan.
If you are going to scan slide film, do not frame it, cut it in strips and use it in negative holder. This will give you much more flat surface and sharper scans.

Hi Cindy,
I have same problem and even tough D200 manual states it is AA only their website is slightly confusing:
http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=886
It took call to Nikon USA to clarify this and they promised that info on web will be updated.
