1. I have a couple of questions?

WHY DO LENS MANUFACTURERS PRODUCE FAST MACRO LENSES IF MOSTLY THEY ARE USED AT

SMALL F/STOPS RATHER THAN WIDE OPEN?

Would anyone be using the Sony 50mm or the 100mm lenses at f/2.8 for macro

    work?

Is it to add unnecessary value to the Macro Lenses, with the excuse of a dual

    purpose?

  2. The long awaited SONY DSLR is here.

    Sony Alpha A100

At US$900???? Check out the specs against the Nikon D200 and you will see how

    aggressive Sony is coming out.

There is a $796 price difference. THANK YOU SONY.

  3. Had any one taken wildlife pictures at Cayo Costa? How does it

compare to Ding Darling? Do I you need to rent a private boat? For

shooting, is it better early AM or is it a PM kind of place?

  4. I am taking pictures with my 7D and HS5600 connected with a cable

(OC-1100) because the wireless will only work when the camera?s

    flash is not up.

The system works fine, but my question would be. Can I set my old

HS5400 by itself and have it work as a slave? Would I need to set my

    HS5400 in wireless?

If I add an extra flash (Flash No.3) like a Vivitar 283 with a Wein

NP Peanut Slave would it work?

Is there anybody with practical experience with multiple flashes?

  5. Hi Toby. My friend Barbara had the same problem with a particular film brand and not with another brand. She uses a Minolta 5 and I heard that it happend with the tension. The camera senses that the film has reached the end and it is time to rewind.
  6. I called Sandisk and the Ultra II is good for temperatures between 23F and 158F and the Extreme III is good between 13F and 185F. I would like to see what Konica Minolta says about the 7D. Sorry if I did not post the temperatures in Celsius as well. I am in a bit of rush, but I am sure you will know how to do it.

    Thanks for your replies.

  7. If the 7D was $1,599 and now Adorama has it at $899.95 (including the $200 rebate from KM) that means that there was a drop in price of 43.8 percent. Not 34 percent.

It seems that it pays to wait.

Bob Lazzarini. Thanks for your post on the lowest price of the 7D. Sorry to that person but I did not understand the Moore's Law or linear thinking approach.

  8. Yes Michael.

Size really does matter. Now that you brought up the issue of the 3 inch screen. One thing that KM got right from the start was the 2.5 inch screen. The new Canon DSLRs are now coming with the 2.5 inch screens. I am referring to Canon?s EOS 5D and EOS 1D Mark II N. I am sure that the agreement with Sony will bring good DLSRs cameras from both manufacturers. The only thing I hope is that the prices are right.

  9. When 7D came out in December 2004 B&H had it at $1,599 and now the same camera sells for $1,099. I even found it on the internet for $1,050. Prices may vary but the fact stands that the 7D dropped about $550. That?s a 34% drop.

Comparatively speaking. Do other camera manufacturers drop their prices like this?

Not that I don?t expect a drop in price but, I think that the 7D was over priced and it had to adjust to market levels to compete with other DSLRs of similar or better features.

Canon?s 20D was selling in September 2004 for $1,500 and now sells for $1,309. Check B&H?s website. In November 2004 a friend bought his 20D at $1450 and another friend bought his in January 2005 at $1,300.

Digital Photography Review?s full report from Jan 2005 on the 7D (Still on their website) compared prices stating: 7D $1,566 6MP vs Canon?s 20D $1,499 8MP

Please check your market prices and kindly indicate your source.

Chris, at this point it?s all speculation, but prices would have to be linked to the current model, meaning the 7D. KM cannot isolate itself from what?s out in the market from other DSLRs manufacturers like Canon or Nikon.

My best guess based on Canon and Nikon?s DSLRs would be 7Dx 8 MP at $1,500 9D 12.8 MP at $4,500. This is just a wild guess. Only better prices and technology would start the reverse the flow of KM people going into Canon.

  10. The 7D came out in December 2004 with a price tag of $1,600 and it?s

now less than $1050. The drop in price was $550 in only nine months.

    WOW.

Did KM over priced the camera hurting the loyal customers? Did this

help the late buyers? The danger of over pricing and dropping the

price to low is like a double blade sword. What is clear to me is

that KM DSLRs don?t hold its value as other camera manufacturers.

What do you think? I would be glad to some comments assuming that KM

is coming with 7Dx with 8 MP and a 9Dx 12.8 MP. Don?t want add to

all that gossip that is going around. This is ONLY A HYPOTHETICAL

CASE to see what are your thoughts about prices for new DSLRs

    cameras.

  11. THE GAP IN TECHNOLOGY IS GETTING WIDER. Even though that Konica-Minolta is not competing in the high-end DSLR Professional market, it is important to note that Canon made another breaking news announcement. They are coming with a 16.7 MP camera. The 1Ds Mark II will have sufficient resolution to produce files which convert to 50MB uncompressed TIFF at 24-bit color depth ? a size which is accepted by leading photo agencies and stock libraries. DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST???

EOS-1Ds Mark II will be available in November for an estimated street price of US$7,999.

Reading the comments on the New 7D, I can see there is almost a unanimous consensus the having a 6MP chip in the new camera was not a wise move for Konica-Minolta.

  12. I am sorry, but I had a typo on my last posting. It should read: The issue is NOW the price and unfortunately economies of scales will play a big part.

My impression is that K-M has the edge in manufacturing cameras at a good quality/price combination, but the good lenses seem to be overpriced. Somebody already pointed out that the two lenses with SSM (SuperSonic-wave Motor), the 70-300 f/2.8 APO G(D)SSM and the 300mm f/2.8 APO G(D)SSM cost much more than comparable Canon lenses with IS.

  13. Sorry Christian. You are right, I did not mention which Canon it was, but Canon has only two 8MP DSLR cameras in the marker, the 1D Mark II to and the 20D.

This last camera was announced by Canon on August and is coming out on September 20, 2004. A friend just signed up at a local store to get a 20D and they told him that there are other eight people on line waiting for that camera to come out.

My point was that K-M has waited to long and had come out with a 6MP when Canon had raised the mark to 8MP. Note that Canon had it first 6MP camera, the 60D, back in 2002 and it had had two other new models, also with 6MP. The 30D and the 10D.

Will the K-M 7D sell like a hot potato like the Canon 20D??? The issue is not the price and unfortunately economies of scales will play a big part.

If Kodak had it DSLR available to work with Nikon or Canon lens. Why can?t K-M make a 7D to be used with other manufacturer lenses???? Wouldn?t that open new markets and make them recuperate the big expenses that they have put in R and D of the new Anti-Shake system?
