  1. Right now they are awesome (finally) in NW Washington. Things are at least 2 weeks late due to cool to cold weather but at last are in outrageous splendor at sea level and a little bit higher. Freezing level is down to 1500 feet tonight and snow not much higher in North Cascades. And, best of all, we've had some sunny days! Enjoy.
  2. Sarah, I can't deal with the cheap part but you should be able to find good photos through THE GREEN BOOK. It's on-line through

www.ag-editions.com and lists about 500 nature photographers who chose to pay money to be listed so magazines can find them. Some of them do non-profits for less but most would prefer to be paid and then donate and get the tax break. Another place is through the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA) that is also on line but I don't know their address.

Another suggestion for gathering your own set of photos from which to draw in the future is to ask some of your members, or local photographers, or a budding student photographer, to volunteer to take photos for you. This works well if you have activities that need coverage rather than simply general pix. I've been doing this for one of our local non-profits for quite a few years. It's my contribution to the local environmental scene. They get broad coverage and the ability to use pix in their local newsletter and I generate a file of photos which I can use for stock to magazines or to illustrate articles I generate. Good luck.
