1.
If a NY city cop paid $30 a week I guess a USAF pilot would be paid double (correct me if Iam wrong).
To use about 1 or 2 month's wages to buy a leica I am not surprised even nowadays.
I guess it's the buying power of US$300 is more in the 30's than now.

  2. Thanks for your answers.

The non-4/3 DSLRs are 3:2 so I take for granted that both the optical viewfinder and the LCD display should be 3:2 when the spec of the camera can take pictures with aspect ratio 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9, until I found out that my Panasonic L1 can only take 3:2 images from live view only (by activating live-view and the optical viewfinder is blocked because of the mirror up).

My question: is there any 4/3 DSLRs out there can take 3:2 pictures (already cropped) form the optical viewfinder(with frame lines or the view area is narrowed to 3:2 etc)?

Any 4/3 camera can take 3:2 pictures without mirror-up?

I like to use the optical viewfinder and I also like 3:2 aspect ratio so that it can be printed on 4R papers with no white border of cropped. When I am using DCs with 4:3 aspects a few years ago, I usually cropped the pictures to 3:2 with cropping software before I sent out to print.

  3. Hi,

I am using an original Pentax M42 to K adapter on my K100D super. It is so easy

to install and remove compare to the other one I bought that comes with a

removal tool from junk bay. The only thing is I can feel a gap about 2mm when I

do focusing (when I twisted the lens), eg., after I focus the lens to the

infinty end, the lens along with the adapter will move about 2mm when I focus

to the other end before the actual movement on the lens focusing ring.

Doesn't look like it will affect anything (let me know if I'm wrong) but anyone

    experience the same?

    Thanks

  4. In Australia (Sydney)the K10D and K100D/super is usually bundle with sigma lens.

If you want the original Pentax kit lens it will cost A$74 (US$70) extra. I check with one shop for a K100D super + original Pentax Kit Lens quote for the body (A$600) + Original Pentax Kit Lens (A$300) total to A$900 (US$800)!!

I guess one reason is the exclusive dealer in Australia for Pentax is also an exclusive dealer for Sigma. (http://www.crkennedy.com.au/v1/index.cfm)

  5. I am in Sydney and I bet on this horse only because it bears the name "Leica". Everything with the name "Leica" must be good and well kept before releasing to the public. It's an hour away from the race and see how it goes!

P.S Falcon is also a hot Ford model here in oz.

  6. I would suggested you to look for a Leica III body on ebay then use the lens from your Fed 5. I bet it should produce sharp pictures as good as any leica lens any you can't tell the difference with naked eyes. You can get a good user Leica III body for about $160 to $180 on ebay if you check on it frequently. Forget to get any Leica lens with it cos anything in an acceptable condition would cost over a hundred dollars. I guess Russian lens is the best shot!!
  7. Hi Al,

How to remove the red/black indicator on the top left corner (levelage by force?)?

There is one screw on the bottom was sealed with "melted plastic", should I remove this screw too and all 5 screws on the clip on base?

Also, should the needle pointed to the 0 mark (the top side of the meter)when the cell is blocked? My meter response to lights when it is set to the red dot position and no matter how I adjusted the ~0~ position on the bottom, I can't move the needle to the top. Pls help!

    Thanks.

  8. Just bought a Leica MC meter from junkBay and the needle is moving

but not quite response to lights. Can anyone tell me how to open this

up and is there any parts I can clean or replace? Once on a Leica

forum someone mentioned he has more or less the same problems I got

but he fixed it by open it and clean some dusts off. Any help is

    welcome. Thanks.
