I've recently purchased one of these, which was apparently designed
for use with the Ikonta series. Does anyone have any information about
it, particularly whether it was primarily intended as an enlarger or a
projector? A copy of a manual would be a great help, though I suspect
the chances of anyone having one are probably slim.

I bought the vivitar when in you position, tried it out and sent it right back. It was way more fragile than any other lens I'd ever seen and I don't beat up my equipment. Also the 1:1 adaptor is irritating. I ended up buying the Tamron used for under $200 which is fine if you don't plan on reselling it. Build quality no problem here for carfeul use.

Sounds like what you need is a camera with interchangeable viewfinders (all Nikon pro F series film cameras, don't know about digital). Then you could fit an action finder which gives a much larger image. For example the F5's DA-30 finder provides an approx 60mm image size! See this link
Not much help for the D100 I'm afraid.

Thank you both for your helpful replies. From your words of caution about its potential to fry the camera, I'll be using it with a nice cheap Nettar and not my Super Ikonta!
