    Visiting winter

I like this image because it looks fake. It gives it a dreamy and surreal quality. If it looked like a perfect photo (which would be impossible, since snow covered hills wouldn't form quite like that), then I would just think you found the perfect spot and had someone walk out there with a balloon. That would actually be a lot easier than coming up with the idea on your own.

I've also noticed that most of the people with unnecessarily harsh opinions have few or no photos up, so they can dish it out, but don't want anybody to be able to take a shot at them. I'm talking to you, claudiu nemes and Lech Dobrzanski (I've also noticed it on other photos, but I'm choosing to call everyone out on this one).

And Stuart Alan Hill, what are you talking about? "Anyone could have taken this picture". WHAT? Nobody could have taken this picture!! This scene doesn't exist.

It's a nice photo, but usually these photos will not get very high ratings because they are only interesting to the friends and family of the subject.
  1. Thanks. I don't remember exactly how long the exposure was, probably 30 seconds. The clouds were moving pretty fast though and it was actually fairly dark out. I like long exposures at night, because you often can't see much in the sky, then the exposure shows much more than you saw at the time.

    Breakfast Meeting

I'm bored and going back over comments I made a while back. I suppose the truth is that I have an aversion to photoshop, so I was biased against this effect. But we've all taken a relatively plain original image and tried to improve it a little after the fact.

I doubt this photo will get very high reviews, but it's a better idea than half of the boring nature shots that get posted every day. It does have a "snap-shot" feel, but it has more personality than just a shot of the hills behind it.

I can't explain exactly why, but I think this would have been better without the hat and sandals. Something about those two things take away from the photo for me.

Nice smoke pattern. For some reason I don't like heavily altered images. This is an interesting design, but it doesn't seem like photography to me. It may just be that I'm jealous because I can't do it myself. Not that my opinion means much, but there it is anyway.
  2. To be honest, I'm not a fan of jazz and I usually don't much care for overly blurred or streaked photos, but this works well here. I can also guess that it would have been kind of a boring photo without it.
  3. Usually I'm not a big fan of airshow photography, but this is a pretty cool shot.

And reviewing your portfolio, you seem to have found a way to take many common subjects and improve upon them. Plus it looks like you get out of the house more than me.

Intense shot. I was on the outside working my way in as an insurance adjuster (which I'm sure is a dirty word there now). I spent 6 months in New Orleans working my way in as the waters went down. It had quite an impact on me and I didn't grow up there. So I can only imagine what it was like for you.

If you're still there, I hope things are working out.

Good way of making a something out of nothing. Where most people just see people walking by, you found a way to make it more interesting.
