1.
Just wondering if anyone has info on the foliage change in the Crested Butte/Kebler pass area for this year? I was thing of coming out, but won't be able to get there until 27-28th of Sept. Would stay for about a week, do you think I'd be past peak? I went the same time, if not later, a couple of years ago. I got some good shots, but was on the tail end of the change. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
2.
Thanks guys. I take very good care of my gear, but 2 of the 3 1DS line of cameras I've owned has had a shutter fail prematurely. The only thing I do a bit out of the ordinary is the long exposures. I bought the camera used, like new, only 800 or so actuations. I could have sent it in and tried for a free fix, but the camera is still operational for what I need it for and I can't be without it right now. I took it to my local repair shop and they diagnosed it and ordered a shutter. I'll take it back when the shutter comes in and only be without for a couple of days. The local shop is always more costly than sending to Canon, but this time I had to make a judgement call. Well, anyway it's too late, I prepaid for the repair as they had to order the part, $380 or so total. At least I know it will have a new shutter. Thanks again for the input.

  3.
Shoot, I was afraid of that. I had my 1DS shutter completely failed at 30K actuations, this Mark III has less than 10K. What's a few hundred bucks right? The problem is being without a camera. I sold my 1DS and 1DS Mark II to buy this one, I knew I should keep a backup! I do have a local repair shop that can take care of it. Just out of curiosity, most of my shooting is with 4 second exposures, is that harder on the shutters? Will this problem lead to complete shutter failure? Thanks for your replies.
4.
I am having an issue with my EOS 1DS MIII. All of the outdoor pictures I have been taking lately have a light horizontal strip at the top of the photo. Happens with multiple lenses, indoor shots don't seem to be affected? Here is a link to a slideshow with examples http://www.cheyennecampingcenter.com/C21DFWP.html . Most of the interior shots are long exposure and in the outdoor shots it seems to be the worst when it's sunny. Some of the outdoor shots don't show it as they have been cropped. Any ideas?
Thanks,
5.
Long story, but I sold my 1Ds on eBay, the buyer thought it was the Mark II and now 5 days after receiving the camers, wants a refund. That's another story. Anyway, he realized it when he was trying to upgrade firmware. He was trying to install Mark II firmware in the 1dS. Would that cause any problems with the camera? I'm inclined not to refund as he bought the camera minutes after being listed and didn't bother to read the description that clearly stated that it was an 11 MP 1Ds. I may have to fight this one out, but wanted to make sure that the attempt to upgrade didn't cause problems with the camera. Thanks for help!

  6. I have a Canoscan FS4000 film scanner and a dated Arcus II flatbed scanner. I shoot digital now, but have

a lot of film, slides and prints to scan. I need a new flatbed scanner for old prints and for my graphic

design work. I've been reading how flatbeds are being used more and more for film and the quality has

greatly improved. I am debating selling the Canoscan and getting a flatbed like Epson v750 pro for all my

scanning needs. How would the scan quality of V750 hold up to the Canoscan. I'm not opposed to having

2 scanners so if anyone have a good recommendation for a flatbed just for scanning prints etc.., please let

me know. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

  7. I am taking a trip this fall for a couple of weeks and need a way to save images from

microdrive or directly from camera. I have 2 4gb drives, but go through those fast, I am

    shooting raw images with a 1ds. I don't have a laptop right now and I really don't need a

dedicated storage unit as I only need it a couple weeks a year. I am thinking of getting a

new 60gb ipod photo and transfering images to that as I already wanted an ipod. I've

heard you can't view them, but newer ipod software might have changed that. Most of the

adapters use usb connection, 1ds uses firewire. Could get a card reader and transfer

directly from card or use the ipod camera connector and attach my card reader. I'm not

sure what will work best, anyone have ipod experience?

  8. I have an EOS 1DS with 2 550EX speedlites and transmitter. When using either flash or

transmitter, I have to adjust the position of the flash on the hotshoe in order to make

contact. Usually turning the flash slightly the right or left, it will make contact. Sometimes

the camera will also display the fel icon and pre-fire the flash. Must be a camera hotshoe

problem since same thing happens with 3 units. Anyone else have an issue like this?

I plan to get serviced, but I need it back fast. Does anyone have canon service experience?

How long should it take and do they use fixed repair rates? Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks
