  1. I recall a study that was done years ago by some retail trade association in conjunction with Sensormatic, a shop lifting prevention device vendor. The surprising result was that most people are very honest, and will not steal something even if there is zero chance that anyone will ever know about it. I don't recall the exact percentages but I believe that it was in the 70% to 80% range. Then there is another group call it 15% to 20% that will steal if they think they will not get caught, but will do the right thing if they believe there is any risk of getting caught. Then their is the single digit group that will steal just to see if they can get away with it no matter what. Obviously, your good Samaritan was in the 70% - 80% group. Despite what we see in the news the vast majority of people are honest. Oh, and one last tidbit there was no correlation with religion. I always found some comfort in reading a scientific basis for what I wanted to believe. What goes around comes around.
  2. I also use the 28-135 IS with a 300D. The pictures are very sharp even before sharpening, and are crystal clear after USM is applied. The quality is better than what I used to get from a Minolta Dimage 7, and approaches fine grain slide film. I shoot with camera parameters set to +1 sharpening and +1 saturation. I see not inherant incompatibility.
