1.
I bought a P7100 - always with me (the D300 not ;-).
The hotshoe was an important aspect and it works well with my SB800. I think the internal flash has no commander mode btw.

I'm happy with the P7100 as an point&shoot, but DSRL is just a different experience. So the P7100 is with me always, but I carry my D300 whenever possible still (I expected to more often leave the DRSL at home).
P7100 shoots RAW, but its not the same file format like the DRSL.

  2. I try to avoid flash whenever I can - I even prefer a bit "blurry" but flashed - since the result are rarely of great atmosphere.

However if I got to the limit - I'll use a bouncing flash as described.

Or in many occassion I use my Nikon-Flash-Combinationan having the possibility to fire wireless (and putting the flash wherever needed).

I don't know the canon-flash-system, but the off-camera helps me to preserve a lot of atmosphere (e.g. if I don't have to be fast or for the VIP-persons on a party.

  3. just some thoughts:

A camera body should be capable to be hooked on your computer (wireless or wired). Images will be transferred to the computer immediately, so you can control it on the computer-screen for better control -> e.g. Nikon has a software called Remote control pro (which works via USB or an additional WLAN-Transmitter).

And if you need proof prints don't forget to calculate a (semi-)pro-printer.

  4. Exposure is important.

Just be carefull when being charged for an exhibition.

There are many galleries (or book printers) which charge high prices but you don't get a real value. Some make their living not with the sales but just with the exhibition charges. So take care and try to find out what you get for the 200$ (e.g. where is the gallery, to they advertise, what is the commission for sales on top of the charge, etc. etc.).

I receive dozens of offers but hardly serious ones.

  5. I recognized the same. I was more or less inactive - with some exceptions for a while.

The rating do say nothing to me anymore - while it was a good indicator in earlier time - now the spread is huge - even with photographs that are not hard to read.

And yes - I get nuts about those comments "congrats" - just meaning have a look at my portfolio.

  6. I do not refer to the shops mentioned here - but in general.

In cases of most wanted cameras, discounter (or others too) often mention a street price - knowing, they don't get enough cameras. So the state often the price which they assume, the camera will cost, when available everywhere. So the actual price loos very nice, unfortunately you don't get the camera today.

Some of them rise the price when they get bodies to sell. Or they even sell it via other channels.

At least for Switzerland Nikon assumes it get enough bodies not before August (official statement - but it means nothing).

  7. "...and I wouldn't dare try to hang the weight of this lens off a lens mount..."

I decided to go for it -tomorrow, since the shops closed today.

It never came to my mind, it could trouble my D200 . Does anybody share this opinion, that it could damage either the mount, the bottom (when camera is attached to the tripod and the lens is mounted) or any other part?

  8. Your contributions are very helpful to me.

Sharpness is the maincriteria besides money. I'm not willing to buy a new pro lens - I may even struggle to explain the need for this lens to my wife (don't get that wrong - I'm happy she sets limits).

I understood, that this lens is a great lens but slow. Sports is not in my mainfocus and things I take picture of, are mostly static.

My preferred lens is a 105mm micro - and I'm happy with it. Since I've mounted it very often, I set limit not having control over the crop. That's why I'd wish a tele-zoom for better control of the crop and to get a bit nearer.

So therefore I really think to get it.

  9. The SB600 supports the creative lightning system of Nikon (newer models). This system is IMO unbelievable strong and especially for keen amateur of great help to get nice indoor shots.

Sooner or later you'll stick to it (if indoor shot and staged photo, eg. portrait, is a topic). Check Nikon's website -> topic Creative Lightning system.

However I would not sell the lenses/tripod, since you would have to buy it again later most probably.

Anyway: Compare the performance and accessoires SB-600 vs. SB-800. It may be worth to stick to the SB-800.

  10. As mentioned by lilly it could be, that the diffusor is the point.

The Sb800 has a switch in the settings for the case that the wide angle diffusor is broken. You may check this setting too (it might help for debbuging).

  11. I've seen an used lens mentioned in the topic for CHF 590 which is

about a bit less than 500 $. It's the first version Nikon 80-200mm

AF/2.8 ED version (without a tripot stand, not AF-D).

According to different reviews this lens is a winner.

The purpose is allround but mainly nature, people (and just seldom

    sport).

I don't trouble with the missing stand.

But I'd like to know, whether I should rethink (to get it) due to

any other reason. Any feedback is highly appreciated.

    thnx in advance.

btw: i added this question to another thread - suprisingly (to me)

the thread does not appear on top of the list, so its fairly sure, I

    don't get any answers.

  12. I've seen an used lens mentioned here for CHF 590 which is about 500 $. It's the first version Nikon 80-200mm AF/2.8 ED version (without a tripot stand).

It seems a winner and I'm on my way to get it to mount on my D200.

The purpose is allround but mainly nature, people (and just seldom sport)

Would you recommend it as you do for the D-Version or should I rethink my wish?

Is the problem referred here on all versions (I'm not sure, which modell was affected). Thnx in advance for any help.
