  1. <p>You are right, a mosaic stitch with M9 shots makes for kind of MF or even LF sensor image quality. I have done a lot of this stuff, from 15 mm to 90 mm focal length.<br>

This one is the largest stitch so far, from 36 handheld shots with M9 and Apo 90 Asph., kind of 7x11 cm sized sensor. This hangs in my office, 120 cm print, excellent detail even when you put your nose on the print...<br>

  2. <p>Jenny, if you are interested in photography... The best lens is the lens you have available when you have a photographic opportunity ;-)<br>

So, I find the Perar VERY useful and dont mind the SLIGHTLY soft corners @ f:3.5. A Leica M is pocketable with this lens (not exactly lightweight, but acceptable IMO). Handling is surely not for everyone, but after a little practice I find it easy, and focusing is indeed very quick and smooth with the handle.<br>

Some of my Perar shots are here<br>

  3. <p>I got #102, and since then it is on my M9 90% of the time. I ordered one because I wanted a very small but hi-quality camera for running (yes, really). Many of these shots I would have missed, it is perfect to have such a combo in your hand when running or in your pocket when skiing, biking etc.<br>

  4. <p>Since October 2010 I am used to run with my M9 and MS Optical Super Triplet Perar 35/3.5, the bag was € 7,50 on e*ay :-) I would not risk possible mechanical damage to the camera by wearing it with a belt, and carry the Leica in my hand. Kind of running with dumbbells. I made some of my best shots running, great not to miss an opportunity.<br>

  5. <p>I made an extensive search for my M9 and Elmarit 28 Asph., and found no 39 mm filter. A 49 > 39 mm step-down ring and the 49 mm B+W 2 stop grad ND works fine for me now, darkens the upper third with a nice soft gradient. The 49 mm B+W should work with 46 mm, also.<br>

BTW, I have some custom made screw - in filters: sold my Canon gear and made use of my Singh-Ray Galen Rowell 2stop soft grad ND (84 x 120 mm), with help of my optician. He cut out a wedge-type 52 mm disc, from the soft transition, and mounted it into a cheapo slim 52 mm UV filter. Sits on my CV15/4.5 II all the time, sometimes on my Nokton 1.5/50, super soft transition from one pole to the other. With my hard-grad ND 3 stop Singh Ray I made two 39 mm filters, the same way. One for upper third, one for lower third. 5 € for the optician, and three cheap UV filters investment. Works fine for me, not so flexible as the LEE RF75 but small !</p>

  6. Jeff, it would be very interesting to see one of your comparisons of 39MP versus 5x4 film. I had the opportunity to shoot a roll of Velvia with Pentax 67 / 45 mm lens (used gear, from my local dealer). I must say, I was blown away by the slides, compared to my 5D. 5x4" to 6x7 film is about the same ratio as 39MP to 12MP. Re grain, I give you right but detail and tonality ?
  7. When I was 17 (now 50), I had a lot of fun with film and my own darkroom. But job

and career slowed my activities down, and I didnt have enough practice. For a

learning curve, digital is extremely helpful. I sold all my analog FE2 and lenses in

2000, and liked the immediate feedback with digital, the creative potential of

    postprocessing.

Just now I am sitting on the fence for a used 6x7 because a good analog MF shot

is way better than any digital sensor now and in the near future. I will shoot analog

when light and scene are promising, or digital "test shots" come out nicely. I will

    not switch 100% to film.

If you have landscape in mind - film tonality and detail is clearly superior to digital

now and in the near future.

A used MF equipment is high value for money but running expenses for film are

high if you shoot a lot of frames. BTW, your flatbed scanner is probably the weak

link in the chain. High quality scanner are $$$.

Another positive aspect of MF or large format is the slower pace of working, good

for composition. Depending on the situation, you need both worlds, I would not

    switch completely.
