  1. Thanks...I appreciate the comments, Barry. In fact, I think I did go for a vertical after this shot, but it didn't come out near as well. Also, I was shooting over the shoulder of my birding partner, so positioning was difficult, at best. I will certainly be prepared for this next spring!
  2. This bird was sitting on a nest right next to the roadway, on an

auto-loop (for birders) running through a wildlife area. When I

stopped to photograph her on the nest, she jumped up briefly, I shot

the picture, then moved on. I don't often encounter a bird so close

that it fills the frame when shooting with a 300mm lens!

    Jack,

I love your portfolio, and this spectacular shot in particular! Judging by your portfolio, you and I hang out at a lot of the same haunts (as well as some of my wanna-go places)...we may run into each other someday. Again, congrats on this magnificent photograph...

    Robin.

Nice photo, with lots of detail...I would say even more detail than one might see of the bird were it in your hand. The bird's attitude shows off the great personality these little birds possess! It would be nice to know what you went through to get this shot.

My first thought was....how did he get that shot from a moving boat? You managed to capture the sharpness of the whale itself, while giving your viewers the feeling of movement with all of the splashing water...well done, Bill!
