  1. I'm not a Leica user/collector, but i am interested in the topic of the price of the M8 (ie. dreaming of owning/using digital rangefinder with Leica glass). Digi-cams from other brands drop in value when they have new updated models, and the life expectancy of a digi-cam nowadays is around ~1 year (a computer's life expectancy is ~6 months)! But I do not think this will hold true for Leica. I do not believe that Leica Camera AG 'thinks' the same as other camera manufacturers and will not release another digital M9 rangefinder 'willy-nilly' (there may be upgrades/updates). Therefore, the price of the M8 will be maintained for some time (~3-5 years? which is a long time in digital time). But to think of the M8 as a collectable, that is another question entirely.
  2. I'm not sure about the camera saying 'no card present', but my D70 developed a problem last year. My camera occasionally 'froze' whenever I inserted a memory card! I found the following D70 service advisory on the Nikon Australia website and sent my camera in for the recommended service and the problem has not occurred again (touch wood). I was told that an electronic component was causing the problem and has to be replaced. I praise Nikon in reporting the fault and fixing it for D70 owners free of charge! BTW, I also had the D70 sensor cleaned while having service done. I have not looked at Nikon USA but maybe you can find some answers there. Anyway, here is the link to the Nikon AUS notice

    http://ww2.nikon.com.au/service/notice/d70.html

Below is the notice that I've copy from the website

    Nikon D70 - Service Advisory

It has come to our attention that select electrical components in a limited number of D70 cameras may, in some instances, fail affecting camera performance and/or operability.

While only a limited number of D70 cameras are affected by this advisory, if:

    (1) when a memory card is inserted, your D70's memory card access lamp blinks, locking camera operations and preventing operation, or

    (2) with no memory card inserted, the camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery, Nikon Inc. will service it free of charge.

Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory kindly send your camera to:

    Nikon Australia PTY LTD

    Unit F1 Lidcombe Business Park

    3-29 Birnie Avenue

    Lidcombe NSW 2141

We apologise for any inconvenience you may experience.

  3. Hi Marc,

I'm also looking for the repair manual for the Rollei because I cannot find a service centre here in Melbourne, Australia, that have experience servicing the Rollei, or will except the Rollei for service! I think I will have to do it myself.

Matthew has a PDF copy which he has generously allowed to send a copy to you. I am wondering if I would be able to request for a copy to be forwarded to my email?

Also, on the topic of Rollei 35 repair, what do you actually need to repair? My Rollei is working properly except for the slow speed and just needs a CLA. I do have a problem with the exposure meter of my other Rollei (35SE) which I am still seeking answers to. I suspect that the 'filter disc' in front of the CDS meter is not correctly 'positioned' and giving wrong readings as compared to my hand-held meter.

  4. Hi Matthew,

Just wondering if you still have the manual that Nicolas sent you? I have tried to contact Nicolas for a copy of the manual but have not heard from him. So I am appealing to all Rollei 35 users if any could spare me a copy of the manual for doing a CLA on my Rollei. The reason is that no service centre here in Melbourne, Australia, offer service to my Rollei 35. Most even add that the Rollei 35's are more trouble than the service cost, with most coming back with problems after CLA, and so would not accept the camera at all! Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hi Seto,

I have a Rollei 35 SE that does not meter correctly & light readings are off as compared to a hand-held meter (ie. to have comparable readings with the hand-held meter, I have to set the film speed dial to ASA(ISO)100 to meter for a ASA(ISO)400 speed film).

I do suspect that my Rollei might have a problem with the positioning of the plastic disc covering the light metering cell and would like to know if you have succeeded in re-fitting your plastic disc?

I have tried the above link given by Michael but the link does not work.

If possible I would like to have your advice and guide in how to detach the metering unit and adjust the plastic disc to solve my metering inaccuracy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  6. Hi Nicolas,

I really appreciate that you freely distribute the much needed repair manual of the ever popular rollei 35! If possible, I would really like to request for the English repair manual for the Rollei 35 (Tessar lens) to be sent to my email address elvincbsATgmailDOTcom.

I just received a Rollei 35 (made in S'pore) and I am not able to consistently adjust the aperture on the camera (sticky aperture?). I can usually open up the aperture (adjust toward f3.5), but definitely cannot make the aperture smaller on demand (adjust toward f22)! Any advice that you can give me will be much appreciated. Your repair manual will definitely help me venture into repairing this beautiful camera!

    best regards,

    Elvin
