Yes they are great! I have bought 2 from mydigitaldiscount.com I made sure that I got the 7.4V version and I charge them in my Canon Charger. They work Just as good as the $60.00 batteries with the Canon name on them. but I think I paid like $14.00 Bucks each for them.

I'm pretty sure that Cosina makes lenses for Vivitar and for Pheonix as well. I've been thinking about getting this lens also.

I use the Generics and the Canons and see no difference. Except the Generics are 1400mah. The only caution I would look out for is the voltage some of the generics have 7.2V instead of 7.4V. I only use the 7.4 and I'm not sure what the effect would be using the 7.2's but I don't care to chance it.
In actually Canon probably doesn't actually manufacture the battery anyways so it's likely to be made by one of probably a few companies anyways , kinda like TV Sets. It's all in the marketing....

I really don't get this dilema . I mean If you wait for a few months look at all the photos that you are going to miss out on? Besides if the 10D has everything you want in a camera then what are you really waiting for? Some Feature that you will never use? As for the value, yeah it's digital and yeah the value is gonna drop but does that mean as soon as a new model comes out your's will stop working? NO. Does it mean that your pictures are less valuable? NO. If you have the money you can't go wrong with the 10D, I have one and it's a great camera , I could also care less that in 6 months you'll buy one on ebay for $600 because I've already saved the difference and then some on the film processing that I'm NOT having to pay for!...So get one, Have fun and Enjoy the pictures that you Won't be missing out on.

Have you upgraded to the new Firmware? Version 2.0? I had similiar issues and after upgrading it seems to be a lot better. Also Just one tip. I would Reset all the settings before and afer the upgrade. As a side note I use custom white balance often and it seems to work beautifully.
-
I've had mine for a month now. Have no problems whatsoever with the old 1.1 firmware and none so far with the 2.0 firmware update. Sounds like you've got a run of bad luck or are you sure you're exposure compensation isn't set to +1 or somthing? I would do a clear on the settings and see if that helps.

I have a 10D now and a 50 1.8 II, and a 28-135 USM IS, This is coming from a N90S and a 50 Prime and 28-105. I know that you also have to take film vs digital into effect. But the IS feature alone for me is well worth it. I don't have a huge budget yet for the L series lenses and yes Nikon has the VS? (antivibration whatever the call letters are for it) point being the Nikons are more $$$$! Nikon is good, well built, great Glass even in cheaper lenses. But I wouldn't take 2 Nikons for my canon now. I like the way it works much better and of course with digital I can learn from my mistakes INSTANTLY! I also like the fact that the canon lenses have the motors in the lenses versus the Nikons on the body. You will have a little learning curve switching over but for me it was all for the better!

Thanks a lot guys, Great input. I think I'll go with the 2 550EX Flash units and a 420EX and the ST-E2 It's a lot more money but it should last me through many more camera bodies. And it's portable, wireless, no cords and very light weight, I want to do some on location stuff and use the setup in my home studio as well (which is a pretty small room 10ftX12ft. Anyone recomend specific models of Light Stands, some type of adapter that I can mount the flash with and umbrella to? and any preference for umbella's? or should I stay away from umbrella's all together and just get something different to soften the flash with?

Does anyone use the Smith-Victor studio lights with the EOS 10D or
for that matter any digital work? I can get a whole kit for 239.00
(look at http://www.photography-lighting.com/ ) the KT900 set is what
I was looking at. Would this be worth it? or should I just go for
the ST-e2 and 2 550EX flash units? I want to set up a small studio
in my house for some portrait and other experimental work. Does
anyone have any experience with these lights? Any comment is
appreciated.

The lens does make a noise when IS is working. Is this what you are hearing? Take it to a shop and let the salesperson listen to the noise. They will be able to tell you for sure.

I would like to set up a home studio to use for both portraits and
other creative (in my case experimental) photos. I am thinking of
getting the set with 2 Canon 550EX flash units and the ST-E2 On
camera controller. What else would I need to make this effective and
produce soft lighting for portraits and other photos. Do they make a
stand that the flash will mount onto and then somehow mount an
umbrella to it to soften the flash? would I need another flash or
would 2 be sufficient? As for metering would the cameras meter work?
or would I need some other form of light meter? as the flash units
and the controller are already going to run about 800 bucks I would
like to get 2 stands maybe another umbrella (if necessary), basically
the minimum I can get away with for now....as I still have to
purchase a backdrop and stands for that as well. Any suggestions
will be much appreciated.

I use a polarizer on my Canon 10D and it works no different that it did on my Nikon
N90S. Just a word of caution don't get a linear one make sure it says circular
polarizer. Linear ones don't work well for autofocus sensors on most cameras.

Thanks everyone you've really helped a lot and I much appreciate it. I have a question for Chuck, Is there an easy way to do this in photoshop? -- "To print an 8x10, the aspect ratio must be cropped to 1.25:1...To print an 8 x 10, crop the image to the correct aspect ratio." Thanks,

Doesn't the 300D have a ver large internal buffer? If you don't take shots consecutively one after the other or even if you do and don't take more than 3, the speed becomes irrelevant. The only difference is it will upload to your computer faster which may or may not be important . For me it's not so I buy the cheapest CF Cards I can find..I have a Viking 256M, Memorex 512M, and some 12X lexar 64M cards and I really don't notice that big a difference because I have the 10D and it's internal buffer is plenty for the shooting that I do.

Can anyone help me with a printing question? If I shoot a Raw image
with my 10D, Convert it using Canon's Zoom Browswer Software to a
Tiff file , If I print a 8x10 the image The printer prints a
border. I'm going for borderless prints on a Epson 785EPX. I can't
figure out the right image size / pixels to set the image to get a
coordinating 8x10. And secondly, Anyone know how to set up colorsync
software on os X? and websites with directions? Sorry if this
sounds stupid but I just started with digital imaging and I need a
little help. If there are any books, websites, etc that anyone can
recommend I'd much appreciate it.

I bought it also, I think it is a very nice grip. I got it because I was use to my mb-10 on my Nikon N90s film camera . The battery life alone especially if you use IS lenses will more than make it worth it. Although I did pay 200 for mine...would like to have found it for $150. I think even that is too expensive but then again $35.00 for a necessary lens hood is a bit ridiculous too! Go for the Grip if you normally like grips on your previous cameras you'll love this one. The coolest feature is it has a place to store the battery door so that you don't lose it!
-
I think your problems with battery life are simply that you may not be leaving the battery in the charger once the light stops blinking on the charger. The User Guide states that you should leave the battery in the charger for 90 MINUTES AFTER the RED LIGHT comes on. I get very good results from my batteries both Canon branded and generic 7.4Volt batteries (not the cheaper 7.2 volt 12 dollar ones, but the 7.4Volt 1300mah batteries for 17.95.

As has been said in here before, the pictures that you are going to miss while you are Waiting. Is it worth it? besides What feature could you possibly NEED that you don't have in the 10D? It's a Great Camera, and it's no more expensive than a mid-level/pro model analog camera. It's not like your 10D is going to take worse pictures just because the 20D or whatever model comes out. Granted the full frame would be nice but then again..for macro and telephoto I actually think I'm begining to like the 1.6X factor. Canon will introduce a good wide angle that is affordable pretty soon I'm sure and that will fix the full frame issue. Besides I'm sure the full frame is going to cost way more than the 10D does now. I really love the camera so much that it won't matter when the next model comes out. My very first shooting session sold me on it , If I'd waited I would the pictures that I have now.

The batteries listed on that site (http://www.sterlingtek.com/ln03-canon-bp-511-dlc511.html) state that they are 7.2 Volt Batteries and 1300Mah, If I'm not mistaken the Canon Batteries are 7.4V and 1100Mah. Although the Mah being larger is a definate benefit, Would this have a negative long term effect on the equipment because of the .2 Volt difference?

Personally, after reading Tons of articles and internet resources. I decided to go with the Canon 10D because of the Metal Body and the Image Stabilization that is available only from Canon Lenses. Nikon does make great equipment and Excellent Glass from what I have read and gathered. I think it is a matter of personal preferrence and features. I would suggest that you go to the camera shop and hold each one in your hand. The Canon 10D is heavier and feels much more solid to me than the Nikon D100, or the Digital Rebel. However, Some people like the D100 because it is lighter because is made from polycarb plastic. The only feature that I feel is missing from the 10D that the D100 has is the LCD protector. Other than that for my preference I feel that the 10D is hands down a better camera, especially over the Digital Rebel Just because of the feel of it. If you don't mind the plastic body the Rebel is a great camera, it even focuses in lower light than the 10D. As for the Canon EF 28-135 Lens with Image Stabilization I think it is an excellent lens and unless you are doing work that requires superior optics I don't think you would even notice the difference in this lens versus the Nikon pro or the Canon L series lenses. The Image Stabilization feature on the lense makes it worth the money in my oppinion because it works as advertised.
Buy D10 now or wait.....
