the quialty of the camera will make a big differance as well. i have a fuji s2 which is 6.1 mp and it will print perfect 16x20 and even great 20x30, but i have a Sony F717 which is 5 mp and the 8x10's from it are not even close to flim 8x10's so i would say 6mp is enough if it is a good camera.

if you get the 300d it has a hot shoe for flash and you can use that the best way is with a wirless remote. i dont know much about the coolpix but if it has a hot shoe you can do the same thing. i have the sony F717 and Fuji S2 and it works great with both for me the one i bought of ebay is great and cheep only $90 here is the link.

If you are shooting with it on Jpeg that is about the correct size for you file. Even on Jpeg it should look way better then the S1 if not someting is wrong for sure. what are you exact settings.

Hey james if you want them to be usable buy the sony. i have the sony wideangle and it works great. ck out www.ecost.com for a great price on them.

Hey Kevin i am a S2 owner and love it. Before i bought i wanted to find the best image quilaty i could and this was my choice for this price range. The iso 100 is great and very sharp i have got up to 24x30 prefect photos out of it and the interpolated file is better i did a test with the lab i use and it shows up as better in prints 16x20 or larger. From what i have seen and read it is about = to a 9 megapixel camera in quilaty. i have had no trouble with foucs speed i do a lot of dance action shoots it has worked fine for me. i have found that a good lense will make a big difference, what was a good lense on film is sometimes not as good on digital but that is true of both cameras. i have the sb-80dx flash and it works great in ttl.

With the iso set on auto mode it will change depending on the light and anything above iso 200 is very bad on this camera i know have the 717 and it does a lot better but if you can set the iso yourself and take it off auto allways use 100 or 200 for low grain.

I have the S2 and love it. it is great at high iso and works with nikon lens which i think is a big plus. i can ger prefect 20x30 prints from it and the only camera i would look at over it would be the Kodak 14n but the price is not worth the differance and it still is not as good at high iso settings.

Vic out of the three go with the Sony. It is the best over all. i have had it for about 8 months and it is great i started with the F707 about two years ago so i know all about them. I know have the Fuji S2 for my main camera but still carry the sony for a back up and leave the film behind. The only down fall to the sony is the cost of memory sticks is a little higer then compact flash, but if you spend about $300 dollars more you can get the new Sony F828 and it looks like it will be even better and it will use compact flash. The picture quialty of the sony is great you can get 8x10 very close to film and up to 16x20 still look great. you can use full manual and the lens is very fast and very little lag on shutter. this is by far the best for focus speed of the three and will focus in pitch dark with the built in AF beam. if you have any more questions fell free to email me.

I have a 1 Gig Microdrive that i have used for about six months and
it will not reformat and it makes i whining noise when i try. I have
tried in my fuji s2 and when i put it in memory card reader it is
like it is not there. Any ideas is it a total loss.

Spencer do you shoot film or digital? would you say that at f2.8 the image is still sharp or soft. i have the tamron 28-105 f2.8 and can not use the 2.8 because the image is way to soft.
-
You are right the lens i have is a 24-85 F2.8/4 sorry may bad. the thing that has got me so worried about sharpness is the Tamron lens i bought 24-105 f2.8 is very soft at 2.8 and is fine at 4.0 and higher. i dont have that problem with the nikon 24-85
thanks, Blake
-
Please help is this as good as the Nikon 80-200 or 70-200 f2.8?
Thanks
-
I have looked at that is it as sharp as the 24-85 f2.8

I am looking for a good sharp zoom lens for weddings. i want one that
is sharp at f2.8 i bought the Tamron 28-105 F2.8 and it is sharp at
F4 or higher but very soft at F2.8. I have a Nikon 24-85 F2.8 and it
is great i just need something with a f2.8 at the higher zoom no more
then 200mm.
takes too long to write to compactflash - cut quality?
