Here's a link to another, less simplified but still simplified, diagram.

"Had about 10 minutes to do this before hungry people pushed me out of the way..."
Matt, you have some nice food photos here, but don't you have to switch your priorites to get the best food photos? It's a choice between food that's good to eat or food that's good to be photographed.
Best,

Colin,
Thanks for the comments. I would have liked a little more all round the frame, but I was using the widest lens I have (a 55 mm) and I was as far back into the corner of the stairs as I could go, so I had to accept the gap between the green stairs and the column, and between the red reverse-stairs and the column.

Thanks for the comment. Peter Eisenman designed the house.

Thanks for the comment. The natural look of the pool was no accident - it was deliberately painted unevenly and in the surrounding colours.

Byron,
Thanks for the comment. The rays are for an object at infinity, so they are effectively parallel when they enter the lens.
I keep meaning to remove this, because it is a bit too simplified, and its only purpose was to illustrate a point about the effect of aperture on lens hood design, in answer to a question.

Thanks for the kind comment. This is an infrared photo, using Kodak HIE film, also known as HSI - High Speed Infrared.
