Hi there, I just bought a new 1.4D 50mm nikkor lens for my D80 and was shocked
at the AF noise. I realize that there is no internal motor like my quiet 18-135
AF-S, but I was really taken back by the noise.
Is this normal for prime AF lenses?
Also, when manually focussing, it's not entirely quiet. If listening carefully,
you can hear very small tiny clicks. The lens takes good photos and operates
perfect with the camera, I was just wondering if this normal or not.
Thanks

Thanks for the answers guys. I've spent a lot of time researching digital p&s's and I think the SD600 may win out - if not for the price alone.
Thanks again for everyone's input, and have a Merry Christmas.

To be honest, I wasn't trying to spark a Nikon VS Canon debate. I was curious if Canon modifies the pixels.

Hi there,
I was reading some reviews of the Canon SD600 (looking for a digital camera for
my wife) and stumbed upon these comments by a photographer. The forum/review in
question is located at:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=387941
Anyways, one of the posters said the following:
"Look at the equipment that Canon makes, they make electronics, so Canon makes
really good electronics and this translate very well to their cameras. Nikon
makes professional lenses and machines that use them (like cameras). Nikon makes
a superior handing camera and they're much more intuitive to use. The quality of
the glass in their cameras are also superior. Their lineup of cameras is also
superior to Canon's."
Fair enough, but I would imagine that a lot of Canon users would disagree. The
part that really got me was this though...
"Yes, Nikon doesn't make everything that goes into it's cameras. Most Nikon
recording chips or CCD come from Sony. But that's not to say Nikon isn't a
superior Camera making company. Canon definitely sell MORE cameras because they
sell everything electronics (copiers, printers, scanners and things like that).
Nikon makes lens and good glass. Like microscopes, and binoculars. Ask any
photographer and they'll tell you that your picture quality is dependent on the
quality of the glass. Every use one of those disposable cameras and wonder why
they suck? It's the same film (meaning same resolution) but the quality just
suck?!? Glass is the answer.
As for the picture quality between Nikon and Canon, I definitely agree that
there's a difference when you look at them close. Why? Nikon records you the
real pixels. Canon softens the picture and therefore looks better CLOSEUP. But
modifying pixels before you get them is never a good thing."
I was wondering if I could some input from you photographers out there whether
this is true or not? Do the cannon CCD's 'modify' the pixels? I have noticed
that the SD600 images are indeed softer. A quick quality comparison between the
models I'm looking at (SD600 vs Nikon S9) can be found here:

Thanks a bunch.

I'm using photoshop, and after editing a .RAW file, I can't seem to
save it as a jpeg. I can save it is a .PSD and a .TIFF, but there is
no jpeg option. Even if I save it as a .TIFF and re-open it, I still
can't save under the .JPEG extension. Any reasons why?

Hi all. I'm curious what exposure method you guys mostly use. I've
noticed a lot of D100 users tend to use the AP mode and just let the
camera choose the exposure. Also, is it a good idea to manually set
your ISO speed rather than have the camera use the auto ISO?

Thanks for the response. I guess that means that there is no way i can sync a flash faster than 60x on my k-1000. That sucks.

I have a pretty basic question. I'm using a K-1000 SLR with a basic
flash that has an auto and manual setting. I just wasted half a roll
of film because my flash and camera were out sync. I didnt know that
I had to shoot at 60x while using the flash. Since 60 is marked by
the X I assume that this is the hightest I can go while keeping the
flash in sync. My question is, are there other flashes that I can use
while shooting at 125? I dont want to spend a fortune, but want to
have the option of using a fill flash for outdoor shots. Any ideas?

I dont have the original box. Just the lens. Do you know if they mark it on the lens somewhere?

Hi there. I recently acquired a free Pentax 2x tele converter for my
K-1000 camera. I was reading other posts, and am under the impression
that only tele converteres with 7 elements are any good. First of
all, how do you determine the elements? Also, what type of
photography is mainly used with 2x tele converters? Portraits,
Landscape ect.
Thanks.
SB-800 i-TTL - How do I configure this mode?
in Nikon
Posted
Hi there,
I've been reading up on i-TTL and I'm wondering how to configure my D80 to use this mode. Apparently, the D80 is
compatible with i-TTL but I can't figure out how to set it up. The back LCD on the SB-800 only cycles through
TTL, GN, A and M mode.
Does i-TTL only work in wireless commander mode?
I was under the impression that the SB-800 would fire two flashes. I can't seem to find any information on this
in the manual or any other forums.
Thanks
