I have to admit that I took that picture in a Wildlife Reserve on the North Island. Which didn't make it much easier because these birds are very agile and curious. But you're right I believe they are found almost exclusively on the South Island. There's however another Kea picture on this site which seems to been taken on the North Island near Wellington, too.

Very impressive eyes and an unusual close-up perspective.

I like it very much but found the light line a bit distracting that runs from the nostril down the beak on the left side...I guess he doesn't have a runny nose, it seems to be a reflection?

I think she spotted you. ;-)

I wanted to share this image. It's a bit older already but I haven't

been active in the past years and just recently found out that this

formation is called "anvil". It's the top of a tropical storm over

Sumatra, taken from a commercial airliner.
