  1. Thanks to all,

some detail more: in Italy the price of a second hand Elan is about 200 Euros, for a 10 you can expect to pay 150-180 (don't ask me why...)

I don't want to sell the rebel for several reason: first of all it's been gave to me for my degree and has a great value for me, moreover I think it's very light and tiny that is an excellent camera to travel with if you do not want to waste space and weight in you backpack.

I agree with charles: rear dial is a great plus, and i also agree on the idea of selling both and looking for a 5x or even 3x series.

Anyway, any further suggestion would be apreciated.

  2. Hello all,

    I own a Eos 300 (Rebel 2000) and a EOS 100 (Elan) as a second body. I

use the 300 with colour film and the 100 with b/w film, usually

shooting 70% of colour and 30% of b/w.

    I've bought for a very reasonable price a EOS10 (10s) with Tamron 28-

200, teleconverter, flash and other ammenities.

Now I'm going to sell either the 10 or the 100. I'm pretty satisfied

of the 100 and being an amateur, I actually don't miss the features

that the EOS10 has (faster fps, intervalometer, etc) but I do

apreciate the possibility of leaving the film leader out and the

capability of not fogging infrared film.

On the whole Elan seems to be simpler but with some useful feature

more (zooming flash, second dial on the back), 10s is more complete

    but somewhat quite outdated.

Finally, 10s is in mint condition, Elan has the well knows issue of

shutter bumper oiling and messing the blades. I've fixed this as

suggested somewhere on this forum and seems to be ok but I know it

will get back sooner or later.

So, which to sell and which to keep ?

    Any suggestion/consideration would be apreciated.

    Thanks, FABIO

  3. Hello sirs,

Some month ago I've bought an used EOS Elan as a second body. It

always worked fine even if since I bought it, there was something

sticky on the left side of the shutter.

I've read somewhere that old canon cameras used to have a shutter

support whose glue tended to melt and dirt the shutter.

Last week I developed a film and nearly half of the pictures

are "cut" in horizontal, some at a half, some at one third, some just

a little slice, a couple of them are completely black.

The pictures were taken in studio with external flash, the syncro was

correctly set at 1/125, but i borrowed the camera to a friend of

mine, so i can't exclude he touched something...

Does someone experienced similar problem ?

    Can I exclude a syncro problem ?

What do you suggest to do to check if it's a shutter or syncro

    problem?

How much would be the repair of the shutter and is it woth ?

    Thank you,

    FABIO - Italy

  4. Thanks Mark, I already own this lens and I'm very happy with it.

A friend of mine wanted to buy the same lens but at the shop they told us that Canon discontinued this lens and has no plan to replace it.

Just wondering if it has been discontinued in the rest of EU or in the US too and why, as it was a top seller.
