This is an example of HDR at it's best in my opinion. It's an image that would be almost impossible to capture with traditional means, but it doesn't go over the top as so many HDR images do. In some respects it is closer to what the human eye would perceive at the original location; that is it provides detail in both the shadow and the brightly lit areas. But at the same time the super-saturation of the colours makes the image more striking than the scene likely appeared to the photographer, though not so much as to make the scene look alien. Of course that's just part of it - the amazingly still water and the great composition turn it into a fabulous shot.

Either a tilt shift lens, or more likely I would guess, the "fake model photography" technique, documented pretty well here:

Very stiking image. It took me a while to figure out what I was looking at (still not exactly sure). I like the central placement of the "object" and the tiny person and passing train to put it into context. Nicely done.

Great shot of a very sweet looking little bird.

I really like the richness of colours in contrast to the background, achieved through careful HDR work I would guess. Nicely done.

Mmmm. It does have atmosphere, but I'm afraid that's about all it has going for it. The Photoshop faux reflection clearly doesn't work for the figure, so I suppose that's why you tried to blur his bit of the reflection, but it just looks wrong. Also, I don't think his smiling "I know I look silly and can't believe you got me to pose for this" expression detracts a bit from the atmosphere. It's fun, but not really that good, and I wonder how it got into the top 50 (given that it doesn't include a nude female anywhere).

Thank you; I do appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Thanks for the comment Jody; yes I did take it vertically - sort of - I was leaning precariously over a battlement at the time, so I think it was actually somewhere in between vertical and horizontal. Anyway,I just thought it looked a bit more interesting horizontally, and landscape works so much better on-screen.

I like this a lot, though I have to say I don't think that the texture really adds anything, and perhaps detracts a little. For example, the moss on the roof is part of the church's charm, but the texturizing de-emphasizes that detail a bit. Still it's a nice shot - you really get the feeling the little church is nestled in the trees. Good job.

This is great, wonderful rich colours and as mentioned a painterly feel to it. Your first commenter suggests it is an example of HDR, but I thought that required multiple bracketed exposures later blended in software, which would make such a street shot unachievable. Or is there something I'm missing? I'd love to know how you got this look.

Amazing capture! And I love the title too.
