  1. Marc,

it is personal preference, so far I like clubphoto.com and costco. Costco is cheap, but a little bit inconsistent. I would say 90% are good, at least for me. just remember, at costco, either use its profile or sRGB (straight from my D100), and ask "not to use auto correction". their machine is by default using auto correction, I adjust my own correction, so i don't need any adjustment...i'm pretty pleased with the result, lots of my fellow photographers use costco.

    worth to try...

  2. Hi y'all,

what do use to sell your pics where u set the price, I heard

printroom.com is good, but how good it is compare to pictage or

photoreflect? any other web like this with reasonable price?

I'm planning to set up an account, but not sure which one...I am a

semi-pro, just shoot like once wedding a month, but would like to

increase off course. Is having gallery on pbase.com good idea?

So I want to have web gallery, and sell the pics. any tips?

    thanks a lot guys....

  3. OK then I will have to use bracket and diffuser. in certain moment, flash is not allowed, so I'm gonna have to use slower speed and tripod, is monopod enough? I'll be using 24-70 f2.8 lens, what do u think the slowest I can use with monopod? tripod is kind a too much hassle. My sigma flash is also broken, it won't fire, I opened the head, and found a broken cable/wire, i'll fix it. I'll compensate the camerA. My histogram mostly on the left side, so I need to make it to the right, is that correct?

thank you guys for your tips...

  4. thanks guys for the tips.

bouncing is impossible there, because of high ceiling, about 10 m, so diffuser is a must.and Kevin, i'll try that setting, good thing I use d100 so i can check. is bracket a must? like i said, i don't like using it, slows me down. do you guys use it alot during wedding? when to use TTL or manual flash?

    thanks.

  5. Hello,

I wonder if flash bracket and a diffuser like lumiquest promax are

must for a wedding. I'll be shooting wedding this weekend, I have

camera flip bracket, but i don't like using it, it slows me down, and

diffuser cuts down the light by 2 stops and the distance too. it will

be in catholic church, pretty low light. any suggestion / tips? when

to use TTL or manual flash? what ISO with flash? I have tried at the

same church without flash, ISO 1000, F3.2 1/40 sec, seems still under

    1 stop.

I use d100 with sigma flah 500 super dg.

    thanks alot in advance..

  6. Anyone use lcd hood for d100? I checked hoodmanusa.com , is this one

really compatible? I don't want ot take off the cover, so I still

wanna use the cover and add the hood. which one is compatible? I saw

a dedicated one in ebay for $40, but it seems like u need to take off

the cover to use it, and the hood itself not high enough to block the

    glare. any suggestion?

    thank you all....

  7. Hi there,

About a month ago, I posted "D100 had weird AF problem" in this great

site. it just would not focus right, the lens was searching and

searching to focus(after took about 8900 pics since Oct '03). So i

decided to send it back to Nikon service in CA. I sent it on Apr 19

via UPS, nikon got it on Apr 20. At that time, their website for

service status was down, so there was no other way but call, and each

call u'll need about 15-30 minutes wait. After 1 week, I got service

order # and their website for serv status was OK, so I checked online

everyday. Nikon said it would be about 1 week or so to fix a camera,

but since they are so busy now, (maybe because alot of returned D70

for back focus problem) so it would take about 2 weeks. from their

website, my D100 is in category "C" which is major repair, parts

replaced, and received an invoice for $693 incl. shipping back, since

still under warranty, so the coverage is also $693, total to pay is

$0.00. Not sure what part they replaced, but just last friday May 14

I got my D100 back. No explaination on the repair, only got a packing

slip with it.Anyway, I tested it, and works as it should..

it took almost 1 month to get it back.

is this normal time? pls share your experience with nikon service.

    thank you.

  8. Well, what size r u trying to get?

image from d100 or most dslr is 2000 x 3000 pixel, or 1488 x 2240 pixel, both sizes are the same ratio which is 2:3, the same as 35mm film. if u print 4x6, nothing is cropped, u get everything, because 4x6 ratio is 2:3, same thing with 8x12, 12x18, 20x30. but if you print 5x7, it is not 2:3 ratio. If u want 1 side to be 5 in, so the other side must be= 5x 3/2 = 7.5

that means, if u print 5x7, u lose 0.5 in of your pic. that is why i always print 4x6 or 8x12 from costco, never 5x7 nor 8x10, because i don't like cropping unless I want it.

    hope this help...

    cheers........

  9. I only have 3 lenses, nikkor 50 F1.8, sigma 24-70 dg ex f2.8, and sigma apo 70-300 macro. I cleaned the lenses using lens tissue with a couple drops of eclipse. I cleaned the contact on the camera, still no luck. I suspect the "click" sound is the problem. I guess the mirror behind the 45degree angled glass is somehow loose and only be in the right position when the camera is tilted up. the wrong position of the mirror causes the lens to search for focus.sometimes the lens stops searching and "focus" and the camera ready to shoot, but this focus is way off out of focus, so blurr. the camera thinks it finds focus, but not. AF is normal only when the camera is tilted up. whta's wrong?

do you think this will be covered in nikon warranty? how long is usually the repair process?

    what a day...

  10. Hi there,

the other day i just shot almost 200 pics of a park and beach w/o any

problem. when i got home, i took off the lens and cleaned it, the

camera had been cleanead in the morning before the shooting. then i

put back the lens on, took some shots to check if the lens

clean...then this weird problem occured. first 2-3 shots were ok,

after that, the AF did not work. the lens searching to focus, and

what even weird is, it will focus only in vertical orientation and

tilted up a liitle bit..it won't focus with horizontal format unless

tilted up almost 90 degree. what happened? i have 3 lenses and tried

them all, still happening. I can hear a very little "click" sound

when i tilt up the camera. Something might have been loosened. so it

will never focus when tilted down, only vertical tilted up a little,

or horizontal tilted almost 90 degree up, or use camera upside down

(the shutter button will be on the bottom) then it'll work as normal.

All other functions are OK, only this AF.

How long would i be without my D100 if i send it to Nikon service?

this should be free, right? it is still under 1 year warranty and it

was not misused or wet or dropped or anything like that. BTW, i have

shots about 8400 pics since Oct 2003.

    anybody had this experience before?

    thanks in advance....

  11. Hi Diana,

I've never tested any, but I have an experience with my cheap compact flash 512 MB. Last thanksgiving, I went to Mt Rainier in WA, it was snowing, so very cold, freezing at noon and windy, I took a lot of shots, but in the middle of shooting, suddenly the LCD said "this card can not be used..." something like that, my d100 was like frozen, not responding, so i turned it off, and turned back on, then it worked fine, but then happened again, so turned it off and on again, worked again, and so on until about 7 times....

luckily, there was only 1 picture that messed up, the snow landscape pic somehow mixed with city pic that I took a day before...i found it right away cause i always checked.so the pic was 3/4 snow, and 1/4 city pic, on LCD or PC.

so i guess it was the weather and cheap compact flash could not work well, it was $113 for 512 MB shipped, from ebay. I have 2. It writes pretty fast, and i still use it all the time and not worry anymore.

I still think my compact flash are pretty though....

    happy holidays....

  12. Hi leo,

How much is D100 in jakarta? how much is the print? how cheap or expensive the new / used lens over there compare to www.keh.com?

I recommend you get D100 if you really like photography, then you can learn some program later if you think you need to. to go pro, of course you have to.

    ciaoo...

(beli aje sebelom natalan - get it b4 christmas)

Here is example from Mt.rainier, very cloudy and foggy situation, no tripods.<div>006h8B-15570784.jpg.10c45a5d5bea1b0c0601ac554c28d69f.jpg</div>

  13. Hi Leo,

    i use d100 now.

dont worry about photoshop and printer, as long as you have pc with USB slot, card reader, cd burner, big hard drive, you're good to go. I shot digital for more than 2 years, still know very little about photoshop, i dont have printer either, but i have great picture prints from online services or even walmart, costco, savon drug, or any other independent small photolab with decent price. printing with your own printer would cost you quite a lot; the ink, paper, and pc hassle ....

knowing some programs is good, but i only use acdsee 5.0 for image browsing, it has some basic editing tools which are easy to use. i dont edit my pics anyway. batch renaming is one feature u really need. battery pack? maybe later, try the battery first, it is good for all day.

only yourself can answer what you need. all i can say is: d100 is a great camera, pretty much like your F80.

once you shoot digital, u'll shoot more than before.

    cheers..

    PS: r u in Jakarta?

  14. well, budget is the main comsideration, me too, that's ok, don't stop shooting.

I have nikkor 70-300G, I don't like it, will sell it soon. I bought used sigma 70-300 APO macro $120 (new $180 in ebay), this one is a bit more expensive than 70-300 DL macro.

so far I can accept the result from my sigma, I don't know about 70-300 DL. checkout photodo.com, the DL seems a bit better than APO.

Anyway, my sigma 70-300 APO produces better image than my Nikkor 70-300 G, i'll keep my sigma and get rid of nikkor G, than in the future will get nikkor 70-300ED if wallet permits.

    cheers...

  15. I'm interested with tamron 28-75 Di f2.8, but not sure with the

    performance. Any inputs?

BTW, I have D100 with nikkor 50 f1.8 & 70-300 sigma APO, and will get

either nikkor 24 f2.8 or sigma 20 f1.8 ex (any comment?). I need

great zoom between 28-100 range, and this tamron crosses my mind.

    I'm new in SLR world.

    thanks a lot in advance.

    Cheers....

    Andry
