  1. Wow! Once again, I am awed and overwhelmed by all the great responses here. I have started marking up my maps already.

Thank you all. Should you ever need Chicago/Northern Illinois/Indiana advice, feel free to ask. Its not as exciting (for me anyway) as the west, but we still have some cool stuff here.

  2. Hello all,

As this forum has been absolutely fantastic for location info (I was

advised to visit Nevada's Valley of Fire and Red Rock in March, and

those were spot on!) I am going to the well again here. My family

liked my shots of the above parks so much, they want to fly into

Vegas, check them out, and then drive to San Francisco.

We plan to go around the end of July, for about a week or a week and

a half, and will be camping out of our car.

I figure we have to hit Death Valley and Yosemite, and I'd like to

get Sequoia in too. Is that too much? If not, any specific places

there we should go see? If these parks are too cliched, are there any

    other places recommended.

Finally, what is good between those parks and San Francisco? Is there

ANYTHING in the central valley worth stopping at, or should we just

    drive thru to San Francisco?

    Thanks for all the help!

  3. Gerald,

You are correct, I was referring to cleaning the CCD. Having had a B&W darkroom for over thirty years, I can attest that dust is the enemy of decent photographs and photographers, and it will never go away, in any form.

I have decided to keep the flammable liquids out of my luggage.

Someday, I may try to sneak this aboard. For now, prudence suggests I find other ways to observe my dustless obsession.

  4. Hello all,

I see lots of threads about checked baggae and tripods and film, but

    found nothing on cleaners.

I have the Eclipse Cleaners from Photographic SOlutions for my D100.

I'd like to put the cleaning fluid in my checked on baggage. However,

that fluid can't even be shipped to some places.

Has anyone checked this stuff in? There is a $27k fine for "not

declaring" this flammable liquid, supposedly. Will the bomb machines

detect this? I'm thinking it's easier to just buy something when I

get there, but I'd like others' opinions/experiences.

    Thx

  5. Hello all,

I will be in Las Vegas late this month. I would like to go out and

shoot some pix of areas surrounding LV. Can anyone recommend a decent

place for an amateur, LV newbie to go to get some decent photo

    opportunities just outside LV?

    thx

  6. Thank you, thank you, thank you, one and all. Especially Bill, I will try the technique you described. It will accomplish two goals. Leaning how to adjust for that poor lighting, and learning more about PS, of which, I am, alas, but a poor neophyte.

I will post the first good pic I get as soon as I can.

    Best to all.

  7. Hello all,

I live, and shoot, a lot in the city. I like to shoot at night. I

know there are filters to render tungsten (or whatever Chicago uses)

to make the colors more normal. However, given the drop off in light

(i.e. - I'm already pushing the limits of a handheld with respect to

shutter speed), I would rather experiment with color correction in

the camera or in Photoshop to get the colors different, rather than

    add a filter.

Has anyone ever experimented with any white balance (I shoot digital)

or Photoshop settings to get rid of some of the orange?

Just curious. This may well be impossible.

  8. Wow! Thanks everyone. The reponse has been great. I love this community.

Yes, I bought the AF, and not the AF-S. Been testing it today, and it seems to be a decent investment for a first IF lense. There are some questions I have, and I will direct them singularly.

I really appreciate this place. I am a long time amateur, and if only I had access to a place like this thirty years ago, I might be a professional today (Yes, I know, the internet didn't exist thirty years ago. At least, as we know it today.)
