Brian, I think you are comparing apples and oranges when you compare the Critique Only Forum with the normal ratings TRP protocol. Look at the time line. Compare how long Photo.net has been supporting the normal rating system compared with the length of time the Critique Only Forum in its present state has been attracting users. You can not compare the two.
Again, you miss the point. I am a loyal Photo.net user and supporter and a customer who is requesting restoration of a service. The people that are requesting this service are not trying to undermine your authority. They just want what they perceive was an ADDED VALUE photo.net option. If you cant justify restoration, I say kill the whole thing and dont give people any choices and let the chips fall where they may.
BTW, thanks for pointing me to the About Us page where there is lots of interesting info.

First off, I would like to thank everyone who responded, including Brian with his detailed explanation. Here is my response. Photo.net is a business and Brian Mottershead is the CEO, responsible to set corporate strategy. I doubt if there is a board of directors so I think Brian has total control in that regard.
A business strategy includes values. Sometimes those values are clear and sometimes they are not. In this case, Brian has articulated his values which are reflected in his business strategy. Anytime a business changes strategy and the new strategy conflicts with the old strategy, the business runs the risk of losing certain customers who disagree with the new strategy and the values that are implied by that strategy. In reality the old customers are replaced with new customers who align better with the new strategy.
The bottom line is that Brian is responsible to grow revenue for Photo.net. From my perspective Photo.net is in position to differentiate itself from other photo sites on the Web by capitalizing on what his customers are telling him. Think about this. Members have three choices and are permitted only one change after they make a choice. Choice number one is Ratings Only Land. Choice number two is Comments Only Land. Choice number three is Ratings and Comments Land.
On the other side of the coin is the customer who also has a choice, to play or not to play.

Dear Photo.net Administration and other site members:
Please explain to me why the Critique Only Forum remains a difficult
to find behind the scenes option?
-
I said this before and I'll say it again. It's nice to have choices.
-
I noticed that the category selection menu is there and then when the pics all load, the menu disappears. Maybe this will help ID the problem. I made no changes to my browser or monitor settings.
-
All of the sudden when I click on Critique Request the page loads
with blank space. I have to scroll down to see the first image. In
addition, all the written information on the right is gone.
-
I find this bickering upsetting and unprofessional on both sides of the fence. I use both forums, the point being I have a choice. Having a choice is nice. Not having a choice is not. Photo.net is a business with customers, cash flow, and so forth and so on. If you can't take the heat get out of the kichen.

The Newsletter is actually a good idea.
-
Brian, there are a few of us loyal (paying) photo.net customers who used the critique only forum on a regular basis. We are asking to know your intention. Would appreciate your giving us the option back or letting us know it will never be back. My guess is if you don't get a lot of push back from members why bother!
-
Additional question: Should I assume the selecting Critque Only option is being phased out?
-
How do I select and look at "Critique Only" images? I do not see
that option in the new layout.
-
I think this is one of those situations where you can please some people some of the time but not all the people all of the time.
I for one think the card is a nice feature and intend on using it from time to time. As far as others using my images in an e-card, well this is a public Web site where the public has access to all 90 gazillion images.
I read both sides of the argument and there are good points on both sides. In closing, I am sure if some wierd abusive situation comes out of this, Brian will react and take care of it as he has done in the past.
-
Problem still happening on my end at the current time. Brian should be getting up soon and will discover the problem...I hope!

David:
Perhaps Brian M. can add his voice to this thread since your complaint is valid. Yet, the number of submissions is within the rules of the site. The varience being the critique only is responsible for a very small number of submissions so if somone dominates that option, there is little recourse. At the same time, I agree that a NEW RULE should be considered when you cannot rely on honesty amd cooperation from the community.

I deleted everything but text (no HTML) but still show as an extended bio?
-
By the way, everything lines up okay in portfoio view. Problem only happnes in folder view.
-
Brian, I am using IE 6.0. Never had the problem till the slide show started. I'd rather have the slide show.
-
Hi Brian:
Can you check into a possible technical problem? When you click on
folder view the images are no longer evenly spaced as they used to
be. I think four across was the way it was. Now there is a sequence
of three, then maybe one, then three again etc. This seems to be
true in eveyrone's folders. Thanks. I hope it is no big deal.
-
Brian, you are amazing! Yes, it is the apostrophe in the title. The folders are 3 and 4. I took out the apostrophe and it worked. Enjoy your turkey day and thanks for the response.
-
I am having a problem and need a suggestion on a fix. When I click on slideshow on two of my folders, it says loading and nothing happens. The other folders work okay. Any ideas on how to fix?
-
Brian, thanks for being on top of the situation.
-
FYI: Keep getting rating system failed message?
-
Really good idea. Maybe Brian will agree?
