  1. To be honest, after years of shooting, I can careless about any of it. TTL, Matrix.. etc.. I use a cheapo $9.99 Vivitar 2000 and just by hitting the test flash button, I know what A/S to set at and get it right by at least 90%. The rest the lab can take care of.

There is no advantage one mode over another. You have to understand how the camera is metering your subject, or should I say colours. Just find something gray and get your reading off that, this will give you a very accurate reading. Works 100% everytime on my M6 :)

However I do have experiences with the F5 Matrix Metering. It is extremely useful for fill flash outdoor. Using it indoor yield less than desirable results for me.

My advice to you is finding the right exposures using just spot metering. It is simply the best of all!

  2. I am looking to go into medium format. I've been shooting

    extensively with a Leica M6 and 90mm Elmarit 2.8. This outfit I

think is the closet as it can come to Medium quality/grainity :)

I am gearing toward the 503 CW 80mm Hassb kit. However the 500 CM

looks very interesting to me due to the low prices. Can you guys

give me some recommendations? My wallet size is around $3000.

I will be shooting Family potrait the most. Very big family :)

What would be a good / decent starter kit for someone with "good"

amount of knowledge on producing a decent potrait shot.

  3. Is there a way to turn off the Area focus and make it only center?

My dad uses this camera, his eyes are kinda bad and sometimes he

accidently hit it. So lots of time he gets bad focused picture. Is

there a way to make it just center? Thank you!

  4. 50mm / 35mm Summicron F2 will serve you well for cassual Friends/family shooting. Pre Ash will save you much money. You can grab a 50mm for as low as $600 almost mint now. I can't justify on going to Asph version for a knife in the wallet :)

For potrait, i'd recommend the 90mm Elmarit 2.8 You can not go wrong with it, simply a bang for the bucks!

If you're thinking about higher quality for better pictures looking, i'd suggest getting a Hasslebladder :) 503CW kit. For the price of M + the lens up there, you can get a complete kit. Otherwise, just go cheap on the lens. Unless you're filthy rich unlike the rest of us hheheheheh.

  5. I got a 2000 Vivitar at wallmart for $12.99. It's a piece of art :)

Supream pictures. Recently switched to Fuji Reala 100. Best money

    can buy!

Anyone got experiences with softar filters? It seems to me for

casual shooting at F2 2.8 Summicron/Elmarit. Only Softar I seem to

do the trick. 2 is too harsh when it shouldn't be. What F should it

    be set at?

  6. Actually it's no troll :) I've been shooting extensively with Kodak 200 and Fuji 100 store film. I asked at a local camera shop and they were selling Tri X 100 I think for $5 a roll. Some of the others are rather expensive. Maybe this wolf is just expensive generally. Photo lab I usually use Costco 1 hour. Sometimes Wallmart near here. What do you recommend for color with leica? I just obtained a 90mm 2.8 Elmarit. Seem pretty awsome at 2.8 with the 400 BW Kodak :)
  7. Ok. I haven't really try out any of the professional films or so

called yet. These are my experiences and I have some questions.

The Kodak 200 that they sell in store. I am getting really bad

results from this film. Sometimes it's so so but in the end. I

concluded that it's kinda "grainy", never give me the picture I

really want. Does anyone have any problem with this film? I think

it runs about $1.50 a roll.

Fuji 100 Iso film. Now this one I am getting great result for

outdoor picture. I mean stunning performance on my 50mm Summicron

F2. For $1 a roll, this film is very much to my liking.

Anyone have any experiences with the Kodak Black and White 400 ISO

they sell in store? The process in C 41 type. I am getting actually

very good prints for ISO 400 films compare to my Kodak 200. And oh

man at F2 50mm Summicron it is awsome!

Any advice on which professional film to try out? I checked out WOlf

and they run around $5 a roll. That's an ouchy to my College

education that I burned on an M6 and 50MM Summicron heh.
