    Untitled

This is what the terrible camera in my Sidekick 3 can do - this is

outdoors, at night, against a wall at the bottom of which are cold

white rope lights, with the flash on. I really like the effect, what

    do you guys think?

I like the sunbeams across the water very much, it makes the composition so much more interesting. Also beautiful colors & gradations in the sky & water.

I like the crazy angle and defect on the right, which looks like a

lens flare but I think is a reflection of the camera in the window of

the plane. This was an amazing sunset over the mountains.

  1. Thank you Agnes - it's so nice to hear someone actually likes what I'm doing. I had begun to feel very discouraged about the technique.

My favorites are not that representative of what I like, mostly because no one else is doing the kind of photos I'm interested in.

  2. OK, stupid title I admit, but I didn't want to call it "Untitled

#21". The image quality on this is less than I'd like - I was playing

around with the camera settings - but I love the glare effect and

    shadow on the lawn.

Foreground lightened considerably with PS fill flash. I like the artifacts introduced by the

camera around the corner of the building and in the trees. Also the almost warped fisheye

    feeling of the lens.

  3. Yeah, the film was deteriorated - I did not develop it until 2003. And it is a B&W neg scanned in color, hence the brown toning. But I kind of like that about it. I guess my biggest problem with it is that it's kind of flat. I wonder if making it darker and punching up the contrast would help.

I've gone digital - I like this camera OK, still trying to get used to it. I like the B&W and

Sepia photo effects. Any comments welcome.

Thanks Andrew! I use an HP Scanjet 4470c, but actually I don't recommend it that highly - it likes to introduce horizontal green lines into the scans for no apparent reason. But considering I'm borrowing it from work for free, it's not so bad.

Mildly interesting to me because it captures this moment in time. (Whether or not it's an

interesting moment is up in the air.) But that freeze-frame quality and the slanting

buildings on the right are what I like about it.

  4. You are not alone in thinking that. Pretty much everyone agrees with you. I know it is extreme, but I need to do it - I am aiming for something here, I'm not quite sure exactly what it is, but this is one step along my path to reaching it. I can't explain it yet, but eventually I hope to get it right.

    Red Eye

This picture makes me so sad for him. I feel like this man is a cousin to the one making the phone call in "Phone Home" - telling his family he won't make it home that night. Then this is him the next morning, having slept in the airport bar, waiting for his red eye flight.
