1.
Have a back up of everything. Camera, lens, batteries.... the fastest glass is the best glass especially in a church due to low light and usually flash is not allowed.
I shoulder 2 cameras... a fast lens on one and a zoom on the other. I even carry a pocket digital just in case.... silly, but I am always ready for disaster. Learned that lesson with my first wedding.

  2. thanks everyone! I agree with all of you. I just need a new picture I guess. I do have more that would be a better representation of my work. But I guess I am too partial to the cute diaper baby since it is my little boy. (he is also the one in the other photos in my folder)... I love shooting my sons and hoped to use one of them, but the fact is, as is so obvious here, I only see Them and not what I want to achieve. Love is blind, is it not? Anyway, back to work. I still like the one of the couple that I had posted a few weeks ago. It was my first wedding. it went well, and I have had many requests to do more wedding, thus the need for cards. Maybe I can do some generic for now, til I get the right photo. I really wanted to have 2 cards... one for weddings and one for children. What are the thoughts on that? Well, thanks again! I have thick skin and no comment will insult me. I appreciate the input and time you all put into helping out. Yve
  3. I make my own..... & I just save a layer that I can copy to other photo files. I have several I use. staight edges, like the one above, sloppy borders, or I scan images or patterns I like and use them as borders around my photos. I have them on my computer already, and when I am editing, I just plug them in by re-sizing and pasting into the new image I am working on. Hope it helps... (it's my cheaper alternative to auto-fx, which is essentially the same thing). Yve
  4. Your work is great! I, too, love the first dance... but i would also lighten it, maybe remove some yellow (was the dress true white?) If so, I would definitely tone it down in hue/saturation and lighten a bit with curves. You have a wonderful eye, Ryan!
  5. The bubbles is a great idea! At a recent wedding (my first!) I just chased them around... got them dancing, looking at flowers and sitting all in a row looking at the bride and groom at their first dance. They were fascinated for some reason & it was a very cute, candid photo. If you can get them outside, and have someone show them a worm or a flower or a rock,,, they will all stand together to see and you will be able to get that impossible kid group photo.

The bride at my recent wedding had a 7 year old daughter, whom I "hired" as my 'picture helper'... she was great at getting the other kids to listen and they did not fuss because they were playing with their friend, and not posing.

    Have fun!

  6. As time passes and I become more experienced and come into some more cash, I buy "better" equipment. It instills some confidence because it has more capabilities than my last camera, tripod, etc... However, what I "see" with a Brownie or a Canon dslr or Rolleiflex or whatever, is unchanged. The prints will vary from camera to camera, but the intention of the shot remains the same. The emotions each shot evokes in the viewers may be different, but I remain the same. I photograph because I Love to do so. Period.

Our use of the word "love" is often used rather loosely.... "I love this battery grip on my camera.....It gives me more control, more weight, more battery life....." But, I will not cry the day my battery grip, camera or lenses hit the ground and break. I won't go to a funeral, I will just get on my pc and order new ones ASAP from B&H Photo.

  7. Here, I go again.... check out Crumpler. I always recommend them because they are fantastic! I just bought the larger "company Embarrassment" and it is perfect for 2 camera bodies, several lenses, plus flash, and all the other gear. I is a shoulder bag, and very easy to have over your shoulder, and on your hip, to access your gear without putting it down. I got it tru. Henrys.com on Ebay. But you can check out their site. (crumpler is made in Australia)
  8. Have you considered Crumpler? I just got the larger, Company Embarrassment & it is great! It was I chose, because my domke f-2 was too small for wedding and location. check it. They do not look like camera bags & they are very 'cool' looking.
  9. Hello, Erin! You and your husband are a gorgeous together! I picked a few that I really liked... ( i did not choose formals, because it is not what I photograph, but you look beautiful in them!)...026, 054, 099, 129, 130, 198, 204, 235, 243, 302, 366, 501

And 366... what a kiss!! the best, in my opinion! congrats on your wedding! Yve

  10. Hey Jeremy, good eye! I especially like #5. It's a great one of the girl looking at her fiance' and of course, nice shot of the ring. I agree with the others that the photos are a bit dark, sort of dull. Just click enhance, color, levels... and play with it for a bit and you will get the hang of it. Just practice. I like the darker tone of that last photo as well, I would probably try to bring out some more blue and maybe lighten highlights.... I only started on Photoshop about 8 months ago & still have tons to learn, but with a good book for reference, tons of practice and patience, and with a little help from friends here on this site, you will get it. Have fun!
