I agree with Kevin above. Another advice, remember when doing portrait, the most important part of your picture is the face of your subject. The background should be as called 'background'.

This photo works for me. It has a very nostalgic feel and using b/w really accentuated this. You did a wonderful job in printing as the contrast on the picture stands out. There are a lot to see in the picture but not boring...if you know what I mean.
One comment in regards to the hat. I do not know from my screen if the hat is almost black or does it have some details on it. From my screen, it took a long time to figure where the hat was and what the big blob of black spot....
Again, Elaine...good picture...you must have gotten your grandfather's artistic side !!
And one last thing....This would be a great postcard material !!
