1. I really don't want to argue but I really got agitated by the followings:

"The order was rec'd Nov 1, 2001, but not shipped until Nov 8th because (I understand) there's a back-ordered item AND because this was your first order with B&H. Since you used a non-USA credit card, we requested (and eventually received) a legible fax of both sides of the card. Once that was completed, the order was processed. I also note that in reply to your e-mailed inquiry, an e-mail was sent to you on Nov 15th explaining that air parcel post internat'l shipping can take 1-6 weeks. For non-USA customers in more of a hurry, we strongly suggest you consider internat'l FedEx which, while more expensive, is far more efficient. "

See the e-mail I recieved earier,

    "Dear Eric Ung,

We are pleased to inform you that your order 1000375388 has been shipped

    on 11/05/2001AIR PARCEL POST.

You should be receiving your order shortly.

We hope you enjoy your new purchase and look forward to serving you again.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PLEASE NOTE:

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Ship Date is a non-business day (i.e. Sunday or Legal Holiday)

then the shipping carriers are closed and your order was NOT shipped

on this date. It is merely the date that your order was packed by B&H

and will be picked up by their respective carrier on the NEXT business

day. Please be advised that the above Tracking number(s) were created

by the B&H shipping department and they will only be recorded by their

respective carriers late in the evening of the day of pickup.

Air Parcel Post shipments do not have tracking numbers."

On my part, I made no delay for the credit card verification, I sent e-mail copy of my card to B&H on the same day of ordering and thank you for reminding, it was 1//11/2001.

It is ridiculous to say, " an e-mail was sent to you on Nov 15th explaining that air parcel post internat'l shipping can take 1-6 weeks ", since according to you previous e-mail, the air parcel had been sent on 05/11/2001 already.

  2. Thank you very much for all your replies. If B&H people were as responsive as you, I won't be so worry.

Of course I feel very sorry about the 911 diaster, but the my last purchase from Adorama was actually 2 wks after 911 and the shipping time was 3 days only.

Anyway, I decided to wait for few days more before I contact the manager as suggested by Shun.

    Thank you!!!

  3. I have ordered US$500+ photographic stuff ( mainly bags and filters )

from B&H 2 weeks ago. They confirmed my order and said the stuff was

shipped on 5/11/2001 by air parcel. I live in Hong Kong and I still

haven't recieved the parcel. I sent them e-mail and I still wait for

    their reply.

I have bought things from Adorama before and the shipping time was

within 3 working days. Adorama people also seem to be more responsive

( I have waited for the B&H reply for 4 days already ).

For those who have experiences for oversea purchase from B&H, when do

you think I should expect my parcel.

    Thank you very much!

  4. I am quite a careless person ( my girlfriend regards me so) but I have never encoutered any problem with loading/unloading of 120 films. After finishing each roll, I lick and stick, then reload another into the chamber. I never try hard to shield myself from sunlight ( as suggested) or keep the finished roll in any special container/bag, there hasn't been any problem. Although sometimes it is a pain to handle the film ( troublesome ), overall it is quite forgiving at least to me.
  5. Hi Charles, is the image quality which Peter provided typical for Canon 2400 too, in that sense, I won't consider it.

I scan my 35mm format films by Photosmart s20 and quite satisfied with the results ( even at one half the max resolution i.e. 1200 dpi ). In Hongkong, some amateur-grade labs also provide films to CD service, suprisingly, at a very low cost, HKD$30-40 per film. Unfortunately, they have not yet extended the same service into 120 films. I don't have firewire and SCIS in my desktop, also at such a low price (~HKD$3,400 ), I am really interested in the new Canon scanner.

  6. Just read an old thread in general photo forum about qualities of image taken by optimized 35mm

(good lenses with slow film) system versus suboptimal MF system (third party extender with fast

film). Not suprisingly, they were similar.

Of course, it generated a lot of comments and one comment said the outdated design and construction

of MF lenses and bodies when compared with the top 35mm system actually contribute as well.

To me, I don't agree with that as I have invested so much already. However, on second thought,

especially whenever I have to reload my MF, whenever I have to travel with my gears and whenever I

want to shoot on tele-side, I really want to ask, " Why it is designed in this way".

I know each systems have their own pros and cons, so I still keep my 35mm. But, why don't they

make better design. For example, why EOS 's way of loading film can't occur in MF

    and...................................Any comment!

  7. Hello,

I am going to buy a Mamiya7II for its 6x7 format and panoramic

capability. I read from one user comment that he prefers to use

120/220 film with the images reduced in size after printing than

using the 135 adaptor for panoramic shot. As I know nothing about

optics, may I ask will the move make any difference in terms of angle

of view,..etc. Or, what should I expect when using the adaptor.

There were some comments about the inconsistency about the built-in

metering system, reasons include different compositions

(sky/ground...) and different metering characteristics with different

lenses attachment ( like a spot metering with longer focal length

lens...), however from the Mamiya forum (?biased), the technican

claimed different lenes attachment is not a problem, the meter

behaves in the same way. Any comment. Thank you very much.

  8. There is a reasonable survery among rangefinders in the June issue of

practical photography. Each systems have their own pros and cons, you

really have to look up by youself.

  9. I don't have the old 100 Macro for comparison, but I have had the

Sigma EX 100 Macro . The new Canon 100 Macro offers much much

significant faster focusing speed than Sigma at any distance. If you

switch the focusimg range to .48 to oo, the focusing speed is as fast

as the 100 USM non-macro. I also find the autofocus is highly usable

in the macro setting. In summary, I am very satisfied with the new

    lens.

  10. I have got a Canon equivalent EF17-35L, if you need focal length smaller than 24, it is really an versatile lens. Althought I am not sure the quality difference between the two lens you are interested, I think one important point about the Nikon 17-35 is it relatively large magnification rate which allows you to take macro work with wide angle (eg, flowers, one in focus, others as background).
  11. I want to travel light with my canon gear for outdoor photography. I

find the vertical grip is a valuable investment for vertical shoot.

Unfortunately the weight (as well as the price) of PB-E2 with battery

NP-E2 is really a burden to me. As PB-E2 also accepts BM-E2, does

this battery magazine accept ordinary 2CR5 battery?

  12. I was also interested in this lens a few months before so I have done

some research on it. The conclusion is, when compared with EF17-

35f2.8L, the sigma is more prone to flare, vignetting and the optical

quality rated as very good instead of excellent for Canon one but it

is rated as excellent when aperture approachs f8. If you can read

Chinese, visit the site http://www.photosharp.com/sigma17-35mm.htm ,

there are other sites also discussing about the lens but most of them

    don't contain pictures for comparison.

Although it doesn't compare the Sigma with Nikon, but I am sure Nikon

won't be inferior to the Canon so I think the information may be

    still useful.

I finally bought the Canon17-35, after five rolls of film with it, I

am suprised how seldom I need the 17-24mm range, when I forced myself

to use the 17mm, some pictures were poorly exposured because the

angle of view was too wide and the shoot contained areas with several

stops difference in terms of exposure.

I had expressed my feeling in the photo.net but my thread got deleted

extra-ordinary fast so I can't recieve much attention.

For these extra-wide angle lens, you may also encounter difficulty in

using C-PL, eg, my Cokin P size vignette on my 17-35mm even I have

cutted the outer part of the mount, so I bought a slim version of

Hoya C-PL/UV hybrid filter, but it costed up to US$149.

Therefore, my suggestion is really think about whether you really

need the 17-24mm range or what you need is a 24mm, 28mm and 35-

    70mm......

Anyway, wish you can make a good decision for yourself.

  13. I also vote for the 'Better Picture Guide to Flower & Garden photography' by Michael Busselle.

It contains a lot of pictures with explanation. All the chapters are unrelated and you can read it at your leisure time.

  14. Semanta,

I finally bought the 17-35mmf2.8L although I am still learning how to

use the ultrawide end properly. Interestingly, I also bought the

Sigma 105 EX two months ago, with more than 10 rolls shooting the

lens is good in terms of quality and handling.
