A 1 second exposure takes exactly the same time with any camera, but the time and effort involved getting to the point where you trip the shutter is WAY different. Only you can know how you actually shoot, but a 35mm/DSLR is almost immediately available, an MF less so, and an LF requires a dedication in time and routine well beyond the other two, even more so if you intend carrying it any distance.
I'd be interested to know whether you use the histogram function on the 20D and whether the lack of this feature on film is one of the reasons for your lack of satisfaction with your MF? I have to say that you don't sound as though you are ready to go with LF, far less the Cadet with its monrail portability issues (field camera would be better). LF may well be in your future, but I don't think the time is right for you just yet.

You might want to ask at the MPP Users site as I'm sure they'll have someone who knows the specifics of this one.

Kerry Thalmann has the Nikkor 90 as one of his future classics, if that is any help to you.

Thanks a lot to all of you.
I've been going through a phase of buying cameras I couldn't afford at the time, simply because they are so cheap nowadays. I've bought a Nikon FE2 as well as the OM2, but had been using the OM2 for transparencies because of the better metering. Seems like I should maybe try b&w in the OM2 and shoot colour in the Nikon instead, then see how I prefer the look of the lens.
Thanks again, Peter

Interesting stuff Robert. I certainly hadn't been thinking about shadows and flare.

Thanks Mark, this is useful info.

Well the good news is that you will only need a linear polariser rather than the more expensive circ-pol. This is because your lens is manual focus and the circ-pol is for AF, so that will make your choice more affordable!

It's a while since I used one, but it certainly didn't leak. Don't know what you're planning here, but try standing on the bulb!

Thanks guys.

Hi All
I've done a search on silver nose Zuikos and found some contrary opinions on how
good they were/are compared to the black nose versions. My current 50/1.8
(silver nose, serial 542xxx) looks to be suffering from the early stages of
fungus, and I'm looking to replace it with either another 1.8 or maybe a 1.4.
I'm keen to make sure I get the best version available, so your advice would be
helpful to me. It also seems from the search that serial no. may play a part in
the relative quality, so your views would be appreciated on the numbers to look for.
Thanks, Peter

While I don't currently have a need to have a shutter serviced, how scary is it that there may be only 2 or 3 people in a 60 million population who can do it?

LF dealers are few and far between in the UK, so you are relatively lucky to be so close to Robert White. I know that Poole isn't exactly just along the road, but Robert White is one of the few businesses actively supporting LF in the UK and has an excellent reputation.

The site lists the current price of a 16x20 filmholder as $565. I'd be kind of sore if I had lost out on that kind of money.

His website seems to suggest he (or at least the business) is alive and kicking.

There was a thread on this earlier this year.

Good answers so far. The main problem I see with the LF kit is that you will be stuck with it for the full 6 weeks, unless you take the risk (and expense) of shipping it back home. You may regret having it by the end of week 1, but by the end of week 2 you will really regret it and by the end of week 3 it will be a real pain. And still another 3 weeks to go!
While I can see the attraction of having it with you, I think it is more likely that you will come to hate it and it could put you off LF for good!

I contacted Odyssey for some information on a coldlight head for an old Devere 54. They told me they weren't interested in old stuff and suggested I buy a more modern Devere from them. Ermmm, no thanks!

I haven't actually tried them myself yet, but I won a voucher on eBay for this lab which seems to have good feedback. Obviously they would want the 10 at one time to save on postage, so perhaps worth a try?

Now you know that it is a 108 from the mid 50s, you are on your way. If you still have the old bellows you can measure them up and Camera Bellows in the UK could make you new bellows. I've no idea what they would cost, but there is an enquiry form here.

It is a bit old nowadays (2000), but Kerry Thalman has a page of lenses he describes as future classics.

Google got me this company in London, but have to say they are new to me so can't make any comment on them.

I was looking for similar information only yesterday, and found this thread http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=0097uY

Hi Tony
Fuji UK website page on Quickload doesn't show Astia as being available here. Maybe drop them an email for the definitive answer?
