Thank you for telling your story. That was one of the most interesting and informative posts I have read in a long time. Cheers

We have done many long-exposure portraits with Canon digital slr's. Obviously tripods are very important to the process...we use color gels on our hotlights and exposure times less than 30 seconds. It is not easy to get a model who is proficient at sitting still. Here is a link to an example.

I shoot sports with a 10D and trust me, the write speed of the card makes a huge difference with this camera. I use Sandisk ultra 2 cards and hit my buffer far less than when I use my lexar 12x. As a previous post mentioned, check out www.robgalbraith.com where he has the write / record speed for almost every DSLR and almost every cf card available. Good Luck!

Have owned the Sigma EF-500 Super DG for over a year and have never had any problems even with my 50mm 1.8 MkII.

I love my Tamron 2.8 28-70!

I use one with my 10D and Britek strobes. It works well enough I suppose, my strobes put out over 6v and the Wein has kept my Canon hotshoe safe. I have noticed, however, that I burn out synch cords at an excessive rate. I'm on my 4th in a year. They are cheap enough and I'm told the cord is the weak link in the lights to hotshoe connection, but I've always wondered if the Wein was contributing to my "burnout" problem.

I am a huge fan of the Tamron SP AF Aspherical XR Di 28-75 1:2.8 I got mine for $300 and it is extremely sharp. There is a review here:

Just a thought...you might want to check out the Tamron SP AF Aspherical XR Di 28-75 2.8 . I looked at the Canon for my 10D, but didn't have the funds. The Tamron is fast, smooth, and incredibly sharp. I purchased the Tamrom for less than $350 before xmas. See a review here: http://www.popphoto.com/article.asp?section_id=2&article_id=711 .

I have Canon primes (28mm 2.8 & 50mm 1.8) and Sigma & Tamron lenses for my 10D and D60. The Canon primes are great, but look into the current posts on this site and dpreview.com & pophoto.com of the new Tamron 28-75 2.8 aspherical XR DI . It's an incredibly sharp, smooth focusing, wide-angle to zoom lens. I only paid $300 for mine brand new and I haven't touched another lens in a month!

I have both lenses, but have not tested the Tamron against the Canon EF 28mm yet as I got the Tamron for xmas. There is a good review of the Tamron zoom at at http://www.popphoto.com/article.asp?section_id=2&article_id=711 . I can say the Tamron works flawlessly with my 10D, is extremely sharp and has very smooth auto-focus. It has become my everyday lense as I am only able to carry 1 at a time, but I would never trade a prime in. Hope that helps.

I am a second shooter / assistant for weddings and it does help for the photographer to have back-up for those special moments that happen frequently at weddings. I charge $50 an hour and have never received complaints for my service or rate.
