  1. David:

Sorry, but I got dyslexic for a moment. I meant to write Mourning Dove. I guess my mind ain't what it used to be! A Rock Dove is commonly known as a Pigeon in the States and has much darker feathers (usually gray-black). I always thought that the beak of a Mourning Dove was pretty weird, so the image stuck in my mind.

Thanks for the kind comments on my photos.

    Have a great day...

  2. Definitely a winner! The vertical works much better, and the darker purple around the border is less distracting. I agree with you, and also like the flower that was left in the background. It adds a sense of balance to the photo. Congrats on the wonderful image!

Was this another of your infamous night shots?

Wonderful image. I couldn't tell what it was by the thumbnail, so I had to open it up. But when I did my jaw dropped.

I agree with a Ivar about cropping the photo. What do you think about my version?

    Osprey With Fish

          2

This is a wonderful shot of an Osprey in its natural surroundings. It must have been fun to watch this.

I wish that we were looking at the other end of the bird, but I know that you can't direct birds of prey.

    Here are my suggestions:

    - The color of the background sky looks a little oversaturated on my monitor. IOW, it looks a little too blue.

    - Lose the yellow border. It distracts the eyes away from the subject and adds nothing to the photo. If you want to keep a border, then stay away from bright colors and use a color that is not distracting. For example, black, a dark brown color like the bark of the tree, or a dark green like the fir leaves in the background.

  4. Both photos are great captures considering the speed that they were going and how close they are to the camera. Congrats!

FWIW, I think that I might actually like the Kimi picture more for some reason.

And I can't wait for Nikon's reply to the new Canon cameras. I'm sure that it will be a great camera. The more competition, the better for us...

    My BIG Cousin

          11

    Wonderful shot.

Here are a few thoughts that might help improve if you ever try it again:

    - I'm not crazy about the border. My eyes are drawn to the bright colors and I think that it distracts from the subject matter.

    - The boy looks like he is playing with one of his toys. Having the boy smile might make it more playful.

    - The road and street lamp kind of distract from the photo as well. The road leads towards nothing.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the wonderful idea and taking the time to actually create a working example. I had never thought of just moving the background. I will have to give it a shot when I get some time.
