David:
Sorry, but I got dyslexic for a moment. I meant to write Mourning Dove. I guess my mind ain't what it used to be! A Rock Dove is commonly known as a Pigeon in the States and has much darker feathers (usually gray-black). I always thought that the beak of a Mourning Dove was pretty weird, so the image stuck in my mind.
Thanks for the kind comments on my photos.
Have a great day...

My guess is a rock dove...

Theo and Biliana:
Thanks for the wonderful comments. I'm glad that you enjoyed the photo.

How long did the whole process (of the Cicada morphing and its wings opening) take?

Please let me know what you think...

The scientific community is buzzing with this exclusive photo that
was just revealed the other day...

Definitely a winner! The vertical works much better, and the darker purple around the border is less distracting. I agree with you, and also like the flower that was left in the background. It adds a sense of balance to the photo. Congrats on the wonderful image!
Was this another of your infamous night shots?
-
Wonderful image. I couldn't tell what it was by the thumbnail, so I had to open it up. But when I did my jaw dropped.
I agree with a Ivar about cropping the photo. What do you think about my version?
-
Yes, I have considered doing it and definitely will at some point. I was just short on time and excited to post the shot.

Unfortunately, this comment has nothing to do with this photo. I am letting you know that there is a website (www.arayan.com) that is using your photos. I assume that they are using them without your permission, because they have hijaaked at least one of my photos from Photo.Net.
Here is one of your photos on the site, there might be more:

I have posted a thread on the "photo.net Site Feedback" forum regarding this issue, and am awaiting some responses.
I will delete this comment once I know that you are aware of the situation at hand.

They do look like a great couple, don't they?
Thanks for stopping by.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

I always try to get a narrow DOF when shooting nature. Unfortunately, I don't own those expensive lenses that go down to f/4 and weigh 30 lbs. I wish that the bokeh was better, but it will have to do. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

This is a wonderful shot of an Osprey in its natural surroundings. It must have been fun to watch this.
I wish that we were looking at the other end of the bird, but I know that you can't direct birds of prey.
Here are my suggestions:
- The color of the background sky looks a little oversaturated on my monitor. IOW, it looks a little too blue.
- Lose the yellow border. It distracts the eyes away from the subject and adds nothing to the photo. If you want to keep a border, then stay away from bright colors and use a color that is not distracting. For example, black, a dark brown color like the bark of the tree, or a dark green like the fir leaves in the background.
-
I know that there is a twig in the way, but you can only work with
what you are presented with.

Both photos are great captures considering the speed that they were going and how close they are to the camera. Congrats!
FWIW, I think that I might actually like the Kimi picture more for some reason.
And I can't wait for Nikon's reply to the new Canon cameras. I'm sure that it will be a great camera. The more competition, the better for us...
-
Not a bad shot for a Nikon :)
Great capture. As a previous commenter said, the colors are great.
Do you know how fast he was going by at that point? And what about some pictures of the winner, Kimi?
-
Wonderful shot.
Here are a few thoughts that might help improve if you ever try it again:
- I'm not crazy about the border. My eyes are drawn to the bright colors and I think that it distracts from the subject matter.
- The boy looks like he is playing with one of his toys. Having the boy smile might make it more playful.
- The road and street lamp kind of distract from the photo as well. The road leads towards nothing.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the wonderful idea and taking the time to actually create a working example. I had never thought of just moving the background. I will have to give it a shot when I get some time.
