1.
I have for years used an Osram Side (1972 model 44) mount flash for my SLR's ( a fifty foot range is not uncommon), however since I went digital my side mount is diffulcult to co-ordinate (lack of better word) to my sony A100. I found an after market hot shoe adaptor for my Osram flash. I seem to constantly take all pictures in manual mode, fight with white balance,so my question while I seem to have answered it would be ...
Will I make my day easier? Do I need to take notes on best settings, once I buy a new Digital flash. I seem to be thinking either the sony HVL F42AF or the Digital Concepts 952AF/Son. I have found similar prices so is not issue only best one as to function.
I would appreciate any feed back, I haven't posted here in a few years, but remember very knowledgable members.

  2. I also have an external flash that i want to use on my A-100 the first thing i had to do was purchase a hot shoe adaptor that fits the sony propiety shoe this gave me the place to plug into. (found one on Ebay $10)

The problem i found was actualy getting my flash to work consistently.

I have varied from A mode Tp S mode To P mode, and i still don't get the distance (50ft) I would get on my SRT101 with this falsh (33yr old Osram Studio BCS flash).

MOst have suggested I just invest in the Sony flash due to the co-ordination between flash and camera making it easier to talk to each other.

The other thing I haven't tried is to just vary the ISO.

    Good luck

  3. looking at either the Tamron AF 28-200mm Super Zoom f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical

    IF Macro Lens ($299) or the Sony AF 75 -300 f4.5 /5.6($209).

I like portrait and landscape if i choose the Sony I save on filters since I

already have a 55mm uv and Polarizor.

My 28 - 70 that comes with camera is not enough zoom for me now that i've been

educated into the X factor on 35mm to DSLR focal length I understand the 70mm

is the same as my srt 101 50mm.

However from a look at quality I would appreciate feed back, before i buy.

  4. Ok so any lens will be 1.5 x focal length?

How about if it is specific to DSLR not adapted is it the same?

Where did you get the 1.5 factor?

This would explain why it didn't feel close up, was less than what I would normally see with 35mm.

    Thabk you

  5. Is a 50 mm lens equal in DSLR I seem to not feel zoomed in with 70mm Digital?

Is there a table for equivalants since I already feel they are not the same.

On cross country trip in April thought i zoomed on buffalo with 70 mm but it

took post processing to get close up.

  6. I also have an SRT 101 with shutter curtain sticking.

Found that I can use it for flash photos since shutter speed is fixed at 60 and the flash duration will not cause over exposure.

However I now have a new A-100 and this will be retired, along with my Kodak retina.

Old cameras never die they just gather dust.

  7. The hot shoe is adaptor ( after market) that fits Sony (since Sony hot shoe on camera is Propieitaery)and this one allows other flashes to be mounted or in my case plugged in.

Flash is Osram BCS44 35 years old runs on 4 AA batteries and will put out some light, can be slave, tilt head, allows bounce an straight same time ,wide angle difuser, and can rotate 270 gegrees has sensor that allows full light or can be modified by F stops for distance. cost $98 in 1975

Not sure what TTL-OFT means but it does fire from camera using hot shoe adaptor. I have tried S at 125 as spelled out in manual or 60 as i use to use in 35 mm shots. All with ISO set to 100

I did find it worked better (exposure) with camera in Auto Mode with fill flashmode, however flash not blasting out 35 - 50 feet I had selected Flash fill flash mode.

  8. Got an after market hot shoe to use with Osram BCS44 Studio side mount flash.

Getting incosistent flash, ISO 100, sync 125 tried 60, Auto WB, F 5.6

These settings on 35 mm would result in good flash up to 35 feet but the sony

seems to vary in results spome bright others dull under exposed.

Any ideas on using external side mount?
