This is a very good shot, ratings are subjective. Truthfully, I've had some photos I was very proud of but few other people liked. And I've had some that I thought were just barely sharable and people loved them.

If you don't like the ratings feature, you can turn it off. People might prefer shots of naked women, or little puppies, or mushrooms to colorful autumn colors.

But I think your efforts payed off. Actually when you look closely, you missed the peak by a little bit, and the shot is still very good!!!

  1. It's debatable what catagory this fits into.

A wilderness conservationist by nature, seeing abandoned and decayingcars in the wilderness troubles me to some degree. However, these carsshowed me that nature will reclaim itself and sometimes do so in anappealing fashion The trees seem to be growing around the car, andalthough it cannot be seen there is a tree growing straight up therear bed of the truck.

Although not truly part of nature, these cars almost seemed to blendinto the scenery as to not be obtrusive. Maybe in 100 more years theywill just be a pile of dust.

photoshoping is WAY too evident. if you did this in layers perhaps decrease the level of transparency. Othwise another version with either just the original or the about 75-90% of the blur would be ideal. i think unless you want it to look digital your goal should always be to back off just a bit and to help boost the subject with the added digital blur. it is dreamlike looking on the plus side.

i think this is a great shot. i feel like i've seen it before but original enough that it still looks fresh to me. nice work.
  2. I can't disagree with the central focus on the players but I'm not really sure how else to place them. second base is centered in the field and going left or right would either be dead space or add elements not intergral to the play. If I could have improved it ideally the runner sliding in from the left corner would make the perfect addition unfortunately I'd have missed the toss into the 2b's mitt. As far as shots, I shoot about 150-200 images per game. Of which there are perhaps 10 keepers. I know the game well so I'm usually pretty aware of where the action is BUT, the players don't always cooperate and sometimes a face is down, or a runner gets in the way of the actual shot. Or the usual problems off missed focus, etc. Shooting action is tough, there are lots of just missed photos that are milliseconds from being very nice shots.

i actually enjoy the blue backgound as it compliments the butterfly. excellent work, i like your use of diagonals and square framing. this is something that appeals to me and i think it is something i will work on.

for some reason i really like the shot...i prefer b&w portraits with simple backgrounds, this works. only negative, look at the dead space on the left? perhaps crop in tight on the ladies shoulder and maybe a bit up top.

you could use just a bit of fill light to fill the shadows under the hat. definitely not too much though because i like the skin tones, just wish the eyes really shined. i like the tight crop too, maybe a little too much blue on the right edge though, not sure it adds anything other then I know it was outside.

I've noticed a lot of dead space around your shots. I had the same issue. try cropping to either a square (harder to frame and matte) or a 4/3 format (prints as a very mattable and framable 6x8 and is fairly square. overall nice work, don't be affraid to crop if the surroundings detract.
