  1. Army/Navy store such as Soldiercity.com has some terrific canvas bags that hug the

body, very comfortable and inconspicuous as a camera bag. I bought an ammo

shoulder bag in army green that works well with my M4 plus MR meter/50

Summicron and it even has two small front pockets a for lens shade or external

    meter, film etc.

  2. Hi,

I just received a Leica (top button)MR meter for my newly acquired M4.

When I did a battery test the needle didn't go over the white dot. I

opened the battery compartment and saw a 625 silver oxide battery. I

replaced it with a new mercury 625 and the needle hit the dot square

on. Should I assume that the meter was not re-calibrated for the

silver oxide battery (anyway of knowing this)and the mercury is

accurate? Also, I didn't set the meter to zero without a battery in

it as the manual suggests. Is this necessary? For outdoors always on

black? Any useful tips would be great. Got my first set of photos

back without metering; outdoor shots were very acceptable.

    Really love the M4.

Thanks again for all previous helpful hints.

  3. Thanks Andrew for the link to my question. Since this is a forum of experienced Leica

users, what better place to ask a question? I'm sure that there are many "dumb"

questions you may have had at one time, but isn't it better to go to the "pros" who

know right off than doing a google? This forum provides much insight into topics

that perhaps an internet search would not cover as well.

Anyway to those that have taken the time to answer a question that has been as

Andrew has stated asked many times, thank you.

  4. Just received my M4 today and have a question about loading the film.

The booklet says "the film lead must be trimmed like that of all films sold in

cartrdges." Do I have to trim the film or leave it as is? I'm having trouble inserting the

film and having it catch correctly in the take-up spool. Do I have to crimp the film or

just place it as shown into the (triangular picture) in the take-up spool?

It must be really easy and I'm just doing it incorrectly. I know that if it is loaded

correctly, the rewind crank should move against the direction of the arrow.

    Any helpful hints out there?

Thanks once again to the people on this great forum.

  5. I have the opportunity to purchase a mint MR top button meter to be used with an

M4. Assuming it is in good working order and batteries could be obtained, is it a

good way to go if primarily using a meter for reflected light?

I recently bought a sekonic l-208 but would also like an onboard meter as well.

Thanks. Anyone currently using the MR please respond.

  6. Has anyone used the VC meter? Would a handheld be more useful? I would use it

    primarily for reflected light.

    Thanks

P.S. Thanks for previous thoughts about my recent M4 purchase.

Can't wait to get and use it for B/W street shooting.

Previous experience with Kowa Super 66 for weddings and Nikon SLR's for enjoyment.

Also into digital with computer, but want to get back to first love, B/W.
