Bill, you question is a common one that has been answered in the Rollei threads in this discussion group. However, the short answer is that you only get true (similar to Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad, etc.) fill flash if you use full manual exposure control in conjunction with the flash exposure compensation switch. In any automatice exposure mode (aperture, shutter or program), the compensation switch reduces the background exposure, while trying to keep the flash exposure constant. The examples shown on page 98 of the July '99 issue of Popular Photography magazine show the result of using manual exposure while reducing the flash with the compensation switch. The narrative discussion of fill flash on page 156 of this issue is in error when it states that this result can be obtained in any automatic mode.
