I currently shoot a Nikon N80 and am warming up to the idea of
switching to a dSLR. I've read a lot of posts so far about the D70,
which sounds like it might be the right call; however, I occasionally
come across threads regarding an "improved D100" with little
additional information. Can anyone offer some insight? Is Nikon
planning on improving the D100, or is the so-called improved D100
actually the D70?

Hello, has anyone visited the Taj Mahal recently? Are tripods still
prohibited? I plan on bringing my tripod on my India trip anyway
(it's just a compact Velbon tripod that easily fits in my backpack
when fully retracted), but I can't seem to find a straight answer on
whether I can use it on the grounds of the Taj. If they're
prohibited, do guards enforce the rules?
A similar posting from a few years ago mentioned something about
applying for a tripod permit from some kind of Indian architectual
ministry. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If such a permit
still exists, perhaps I have enough time to obtain one since I don't
leave until November.
Thanks for your input.

I currently shoot a Nikon N80 (I just posted the D70/"improved" D100
question), which generally meets/exceeds my needs in terms of image
quality (I only use two lenses: Tamron AF 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 XR and
Nikkor AF 20mm f/2.8D).
I generally use my N80 for travel photography (especially
architecture) and sometimes flowers, shooting color prints and
sometimes slides. On occasion, I blow up an image to 5 x 7 or 8 x
10, but that's about it.
If I switch to a dSLR (say a D70 or D100), can I expect the same type
of image quality produced with my N80 (assuming same/similar lens
quality)?
Also, I admit I'm enticed by dSLRs like the Canon 1D Mark II, which
boast 8+ MP; however, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference
with my type of photography and lens quality (plus I can't afford the
huge price tag).
