Try shooting at dusk, before it really gets dark. Actually, if you set up late afernoon and give yourself a few minutes between exposures you should find the one that works best for you. Never shot digital in this situation, but here's how it works with slides - take your shots just after dusk, while there's still some light in the sky. Meter directly from a patch of nothing but sky and let everything else fall where it wants to. The instant feedback of digital should help here. Don't know what the range of 10D is, but it can't be worse than slide film. Give it a try, let us know how it works. Jim

Just wondering - why are you using an adapter? A2 already has a pc outlet. Jim

Just a couple thoughts:
Regarding the Sigma flash w/umbrella -1.) as long as you have a white ceiling to bounce off with your 420, you'll get similar effect 2.)umbrella may be fine now while he (or she) is still not very mobile, wait 'til he starts moving!
The 85 would be my choice - in fact it was a few years back - I've got some really nice pictures of my kids that I took with the 28-105 (my 1st lens) but the 85 is in a class by itself. Try it with some 400 speed black and white and some nice window light, shoot wide open (or nearly so),focus on the eyes and watch everything else just melt away into the background. You'll be amazed at the results.
You've got a nice set-up now with the flash you have for the situations where you need it. Multi-flash set-ups are nice, but you have to practice with them to really get the hang of things and get the shot quickly and they're not too convenient when you're chasing a toddler around - and you're not too far off from that! A lens that lets you shoot with available light and still get decent shutter speeds is the way to go (at least in my opinion). Get it now before she changes her mind;-) Jim

The only problem with a Pentax screw-mount to EOS converter is if the lens is using a Pentax bayonet mount, which is probably more likely. Jim

Just my 2 cents - I would think that a regular candle or an incandescent lamp would work better in this situation. The orange hue given off (on daylight balanced film) should give the feel that you're looking for in this type of photo. The white light from a daylight balanced strobe doesn't really portray the warmth that you would typically be looking for in a scene like this. Again, this is just my opinion, you may be looking for a different effect.

I'm glad you already got the answer to your question. Truth is - you'll never take it off, the camera is that much better with the grip than without it. I would have had to think about how to do it, since I put mine on several years ago and it hasn't come off since!

As far as wide angle adapters for G2, is Canon the best way to go?
How do the aftermarket adapters compare in quality and price - where
is the best bang for the buck? Or do they all pretty much suck?
Thanks, Jim

To everyone that responded - a thousand thank-you's - this is what makes Photo-Net great. There's always someone that's willing to help. Photography has been a hobby/passion for a number of years and this is just a new direction. Again, thank you for all the responses. Jim

OK,
So I finally took the plunge and ordered a G2 (price was right and
all the reviews sound great). I've never used a digital camera
before, so even though I kind of understand the purpose of histograms
and white balance and all that, I've never actually put any of it
into practice and I haven't done much post-processing in the computer
either.
So any advice as to where to go - websites, books, etc. - for info to
get me started would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jim
Which eye do you use to look through the viewfinder?
