1. Hi there, nothing to complain about the new way the ratings are

showed. But i think for some people may be good if next to the name

of the people who rated is writen the date when he or she gave the

anonymous rate?... not to have a clue about the rate, but to know the

last date when a photo got a rate.

Note, also the field Last Rate was on :XX-XX-XXXX is more than enough

    for me.

Well hope i didnt bother much.

    Thanks

  2. I did read the article, still in my opinion is the same thing.

A printed photo produced with film is just a technique that uses analog methods to store 'information'. The camera, the film, the papper, the chemicals, etc are the bottle. The same as hard drive, monitor, warrens ipod, etc. In both cases the physical world is just a medium a support. And we still the physical world to get something into our mind. :)

  3. Men continuesly seeks for universe control (shame this word has some bad emotions attatched to it). Technology is what men develops from stone age to archive this control over the physical universe.

First stage of tech dev. was focused on Matter and Space control, second stage on Energy; now we focus on Time.

IT advances are focused directed to time (comunication).

Photography advanced within this paradigm (time), the digi cam is just a 'natural' migration needed for the 'new' system layout of comunications.

An Art medium that has no physical form. How would that change how we interact with each other?

As pointed before here, even in digital you have a physical form. I think this question fits better to the invention of language:
which physical form a poem has?
IMO digital wont replace analog models as printed books or photography: why do we have a body (analog and digi system) for?
For sure we have a new medium, but still is only an emulation of existing ones.

  4. Ok guys im in, why i didnt sucribe before? well, no excuses i was just using the service for free which is an option. Im also from a low curency country but i wont say 25$ per year is too much money for someone who owns a computer a camera and sometimes spends that money on a wild night :).

I do understand now that pn is a tool for me even if photo is a hobby for me (i do have to pay for most of my hobbies). And i do really apreciate the energy that Brian, Bob and the rest put in their sysadmin moderators roles.

Anyways i cant say anything to those who dont want or cant pay, is an option, no need for excuses. And since it is still an option why to questionize them?

best wishes for all of you

  5. This type of topic and comments you can find lots and lots in the forum.

My suggestion now is to open a new category "I got a low rate from some idiot" in the forum, with a FAQ presentation like:

    1) Why dont we force users to leave a comment if they give a low rate?

a - they will write garbage.

b - gigas of expensive drives will be filled with garbage.

c - users will complain in the forum because of garbage comments.

d - gigas of expensive drives will be filled with this kind of comments.

    2) Why just dont let users with no uploaded photos to rate or comment?

a - valuable critics which dont post will leave our comunity.

b - ghost users will upload garbage.

c - gigas of expencive drives will be filled with garbage photos.

d - users will complain about useres with garbage photos giving low rates with no comment

e - gigas of expencive drives will be filled with comments ...

    and so on...

One or two low rate with no comment per day is recomended for our mental health, may taste ugly but works! ;)

  6. Hello Haleh, your post reflects what lots of users from photo.net are complaining about for a while not just in the forum but also with they photos or comments.

Althought at first i was feeling kind of like you, now i do understand that it is just how people is and that there so many different tastes and points of views that we cant just pretend to be read as we read ourselves and even less in photography. To make the system more restrictive wont work since if someone wants to give you a 2/2 with no comment he or she will just write "@#@#!#@".

So far i think photo.net gives you the tools to see the rater profile where you can find his history of comments, top rated pictures and his work (not always of course). And even more!, if you think the rater is abusing then write to the abuses link and explain the moderators your point.

What we all are complaining here is about the low feedback we are obtaining, but the fault is on the people not in the system. What i experienced so far is that the more feedback you give more feedback you will recive (good or bad, doesnt matter). It is up to us to make the best out of this great site.

Best wishes for your journey round here...

  7. I think i experienced this problem before... correct me if im wrong but this happens when you are rating not from the gallery but from the secuence photo system where you rate or comment not in the photo page it self. Where you have the option to submit the rating or comment or the option to skip this photo.

Well happened to me that when i skip the photo somehow the system saves some flag that i did already rated the picture so if i want later to rate it, the systems tells me hey dude you already rate this picure with /7 and /7 or sometimes with rates i gave to another photo?

... but so far only happened to me in that form or fashion.
