1. Ah fantastic! Reminds me of the

first picture I took with a

    manual camera (Olympus 8080). I

was looking at the spire of a

    church which looked really well

against the backdrop of a blue

sky but kept getting washed out

due to overexposure for the sky

so I dialled it down a bit and

    was absolutely stunned!

I have the K50 now too and love

it. Thanks for sharing your pic

    and reminding me.

  2.
i'm going to Barcelona with the kids for a week and will have my trusty Ricoh GRD IV with me. Not going to bring my dslr as its too big and too obvious and stands out too much for the pickpockets and stuff. Already i've booked tickets for the Neu Camp, Funtasia Aquaparc and Guell Park. I also intend going to the Gothic Quarter and the Gaudi Hotel, any other suggestions are welcome.

  3.
i am looking for a flash for my K10d and was thinking of getting the pentax 360fgz which will set me back a pretty penny. i hope to do some some macro work and need a light source other than the onboard flash. i also need an ikelite underwater strobe for my housing for an olympus 8080 and 5050 and i thought maybe i could buy an ikelite ds 51 strobe
http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/substrobe_dig50.html
and somehow use it on the pentax k10d but the thing is i never bought a flash let alone used one before so i don't even know how and if it will work but it would save me the guts of 400 euro if it did work.

i know on the underwater housing there is a wire connecting the flash hotshoe to the external port for the strobe but whether i can use it to connect the strobe to the k10d i don't know! anyone have any clues?

  4.
just wondering did you make a decision yet on which camera you are going for?
I am always looking for the perfect camera and i can't quite get it into my head that one camera is not going to be enough...ever! it all comes down to ergonomics for me i.e. size, build quality, ease of use etc. i like using my dslr but i don't have it with me all the time cos of its bulkiness so i don't use it as much as my pocket camera - which is pretty crap. i am half tempted to join the mirrorless bandwagon but i think even though they are smaller than a dslr they are still just a little too big to bring around everywhere but its personal preference.
there is a bit of a review of the OMD here on digitalrev which is worth a look maybe?
5.
hi all, i am travelling to the USA in a weeks time and want to buy a GRD IV. I will be staying in Washington DC and Pittsburgh for a few days each and was wondering is there anywhere i can get one of these cameras. I have looked online but from what i can see it seems like B&H in New York is the only place but that can't be right is it? i did buy one off ebay but it arrived broken:( It killed me to send it back instead of getting it fixed but i sent it back for a refund and hoping to buy another. thanks

  6.
here is a nice page with helpful info on making panoramic photgraphs
http://mansurovs.com/panoramic-photography-howto
and an even better page imo
http://forum.mflenses.com/a-beginners-guide-to-panorama-stiching-t19182.html

i made a few panoramas with a small point and shoot and i wasnt expecting much but it came out really well using a free microsoft app. i am sure there are better out there but it worked fine for me:)

  7.
thanks all for the responses. i couldnt decide which to bring and have started looking at getting a better all in one lens for the dslr. i use macro for lots of shots of everything - not just nature but interesting things i notice and if it was a case that i couldnt do macro i am sure macro is all i would want to do;)

i seen there were a few thunderstorms over in washington recently! hope there was not too much damage done. i seen a few people were killed which isnt good.

  8.
thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I wanted a walkaround lens that i could leave on the camera and would do everything but alas it seems i can't really. and if i'm honest its not what a dslr is made for - interchangeable lenses are interchangeable for a reason:)
as for what sort of magnification? i started looking at the raynox page somewhere and was blown away with the results of one of these coupled with a dedicated pentax macro lens. the autofocus wouldn't bother me at all i'd prefer manual.

  9.
oh right i didnt know that but it stands to reason as most macro lenses are around the 100mm mark. most good ones from what i have seen anyway:) thanks

not sure i'll get a dedicated macro lens though. they are pretty pricey and the whole reason i was looking for one with a wide angle so i could leave it on my camera all the time.
would you recommend a raynox and general lens combination?

  10.
i am looking at the sigma 17-70 macro but the only one i can find on ebay is 400 euro and can't see any second hand. needless to say its too expensive and i am really looking for a second hand one.
i dont particularly need the zoom and would prefer a prime lens. but i am not sure there are a wide angle macro available in prime is there?
are there any good places to get a lens such as this. i checked the classifieds here but no cigar. don't mind paying for postage

  11.
sorry for delay but the mobile version was not letting me log in:~ i am thinking this trip will present different photography opportunities for me. i'm going to washington dc and will no doubt head into the museums and stuff so a good low light might be useful. also we don;t have skyscrapers over here either so i am looking forward to seeing these huge buildings. the biggest one in ireland is only about 11 storeys high! thanks for the thoughts

  12.
this is sort of like a which camera to buy question but i don't have the perfect 'one' camera so have a few that i use and i would normally bring them all with me. This summer however i'm flying to america and need to bring a light load with me. the cameras i own are
i ahve extra batteries and cards for all of them

canon sd700 is - pocketable, no wide angle, on its last legs i think
pentax k10d - big and bulky, no macro lens but 1.7 50mm indoors?
olympus 7070 - not pocketable but better than dslr,
olympus 8080 -big and bulky, slowish, poor battery life

i am definitely bringing the canon cos its so small and while no wide angle it is a carry everywhere camera and i suppose in case it breaks i need to bring another. i'm tempted to bring the k10d with a 18-55 kit lens but i hate not being able to take macro shots. i have a f1.7 50mm lens too which is lovely but the hassle of bringing a bag around with me. i had it in france and i was raging that i left the 8080 behind. i since bought a 7070 for underwater work and tempted to bring that too.

i suppose this is a personal decision but i don't want to miss out on any shots. its my first time to the states and i want to get the most of the trip. i was even looking at buying a new camera for the job. something like the s100 or more recently the ricoh grd iv! just wondering if anyone has any advice?

  13.
yeah i think the 5050 fits into that "too highly sprung" category:( so might need another workaround. i heard from somewhere else that they drilled a couple of holes through it and popped some screws in there and it works so might give that a go too. thanks

  14.
i'm using nurses tape at the minute which is fairly strong but the pressre of the batteries pushing against the door is causing it to slip somewhat so was going to try some other tape. ha ha was going to get some duct tape but think i'll have a look for the scotch 3m stuff first:) thanks. did you ever try the 3m filament stuff? wonder if thats any good?

  15.
it slipped out of my hand at waist high and the battery door flew open. turns out the hooks on both the battery door and body have come off so a new door might not resolve the problem. i'm using nurses tape now at the moment to keep it closed - anyone know what else i can do?
wouldn't mind but don't have it long and absolutely fell in love with it for the month i had it:) ironic too that i went looking for a strap for it too the day or so before i dropped it:(

  16.
I recently got a 5050 with underwater housing and had great fun using it above water too, so much so in fact i used it before my dslr and canon compact - dropped it unfortunately though and broke the battery door. thinking of getting a replacement though:)

  17.
thanks, i put off buying a DSLR for years (literally 4-5 years) but saw a great bargain on the K10D close to me so decided to go for it:) the weather proofing of the K10D sort of gave me the final shove:) was looking at *ist D on ebay for that time!
that pentax slingbag looks huge!! probably a good idea in the long run cos i'm already looking at lenses on ebay:) if for no other reason to keep all my stuff together and safe from dust etc. just picked out a lens i had and the amount of fluff and dust etc on it was crazy, luckilly i had a cover on both ends:)
The thing i was looking at is here but is about 70 euro:(
http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-pentax-o-cc55-case-for-k10d.htm
it seems like it would be perfect for throwing in a haversack when i go off hillwalking. and not too big to leave under the car seat but yeah the sling type bag might be on the shopping list too:)

  18.
Hiya, i am a proud new owner of a K10D and have a really bad history for looking after stuff be it cameras or whatever and decided that i definitely need a case. I am not sure as to which type i should get though, but i can't see myself carrying around a bag with all my stuff i.e. lenses and chargers and flashes etc so have decided to go for one of the cases that fit snugly around the camera and a lens. something like the pentax 0-CC55 but hopefully cheaper!
does anyone have any recommendations for this sort of case for the K10D? doesn't have to be pentax or leather or anything really:)

  19. Hi I bought a new Canon Ixus 800 IS from Pixmania.com about 2 weeks ago and it

has started clicking when I zoom in on something and when it starts up in record

mode. It works perfectly apart from the noise but was wondering if this could be

a sign of an impending failure. It is only 2 weeks old but I didn't get the Zen

engagement thing from Pixmania.com i.e. free product replacement etc. Is it

still covered by a Canon warranty? Is it possible to get it fixed/looked at for

free in Ireland if I bring it to a Canon dealer? I don't want to have to pay to

get it fixed if I can get away with it;-) Thanks - ed

  20. Hi, I own an Olympus 8080 and I want to get something a little more pocketable.

I really like the 8080 on specific photo opportunites but feel I leave it at

home or in the car due to its size more often than not. The Canon G7 looks

interesting, probably as big as I'd go. I'm lookijg for a fast auto focus

especially indoors. I know the 8080 is really slow indoors anyway but not sure

of the G7. Is it fast enough to snap kids and pets indoors and out? Thanks
