  1. Hi, the biggest problem for all of us occured with renting motorbikes. There is NO CHANCE to ride a motorbike in Angkor Wat since 2005 as a foreigner. All renting aggencies were closed. You can only rent a bike with a driver what means extra costs and much more trouble. Even I bought my second hand bike (300 USD) registered to my name I was not allowed to entry tne Angkor Wat complex. We rravelled by this bike all over Cabmodia without any police trouble, but no in Angkor Wat !!!

Myanmar has the same restriction all over the country. It takes much more energy to be on the right place in the right time but is't our photographic life....

  2. Hi, if you buy real professional camera in Thailand (Canon or Nikon) then you can save some money. European brands as Sinar and Linhof do not offer better prices on the Thai market. There is not any problem because of global warranty (Canon, Nikon). Try one of the pro shops: Foto Thailand (MBK), Niks Thailand (Silom). Good luck.
  3. Hi, everywhere in SE Asia you'll have NO trouble with this setup. Don't fear ! There is sometimes much bigger worry how to recharge the batteries. Don't show your photobag on the airport until you are not asked. Nice shots.
  4. Tioman island doesn't offer a lot of typical tropical paradise island photography, but still has a lot to show. If you like to shoot palmtrees you should go to the beach nearby Melina Beach Resort. Otherwise I took the best shots on Kampung Salang, Monkey bay and inside the jungle.

I know Sabah quite well, but no Sarawak, therefore Kuching is off my knowledge.

    Good luck.

  5. Hi, I have one month on Borneo, mainly in Sabah, maybe Sarawak. Does anybody have any recommendation for landscape jungle shooting ? Is medium sized film avaiable to buy in Kota Kinabalu ? Many thanks for answers.

    Good light.

  6. Yes, they are. If you like to have blue skies, you have to go after rainy seazon. By the way, work in Angkor area is now much harder then was, because foreiners are not allowed to drive any vehicle except for bikes. I'm now in Phom-Phen, and I left from Siem Reap soon this year, because was really annoying to travel with rented driver. I'm so happy have my work done in Angkor. I'll be back after better times come.

Hazy weather isn't so bad for sunrise pictures as well, so I got quite good 4 days ago.

    Good luck.

  7. Hi Craig,

I'll be shooting in Cambodia about month from middle of January until middle of march (maybe later} with medium and large format camera. If are you interested contact me for details. I have no fix plan, I shoot througout SE Asia about 3 months every year.

  8. Hi Andrew, we do not have public darkrooms in my city. It is not typical for us, we all have own at home. You can rent a studio space with a private darkroom, but you will have to pay a lot, it is still cheaper to buy new enlarger (Meopta - www.meopta.com - for prices check czech version, otherwise prices are much bigger on english) and all and built you darkroom at home.

I have no experience with a FAMU darkroom, but I would be scared.

For photographic suply check www.fotoskoda.cz - the best shop in the country.

If you need any hepl be free to contact me on +420 608 358 358 or radim@sulc.com (after March 15th, I'm in Burma now).

    Good luck.

  9. Hi Mark, I just want to inform you, there is not Velvia 50 (120) on the market in Thailand. I was searching for Velvia in all photographic shops and bought last 5 rolls in Bangkok. I have been in Bangkok from January 8th until yesterday with some trips to other countries. Velvia 100F (120) is avaiable mainly in Silom.
  10. Hi Paulo,

I have to agree with Armin. I use Horseman 6x9 and works nice. Is cheaper than Linhof Rollex and does same work. If you don't like to remove ground glass you must pay twice more. Catologue number for Horseman 6x9 back for universal use on 4x5 cameras is 22451.

  11. Hi Robert,

I use a Cokin "P" system for many years on 67II. Cokin "X" system is not more useable while you don't shoot with 500 mm {filter size 92 mm). For 45 mm and 55 mm I recommend to get slim holder to prevent vignetting. 45 mm vignettes with a polarizer on a standard "P" holder. You can also get Cokin Z-PRO system with 100 x 100 mm filters. I have no experience with Lee system.
